Back in the 70's the Canadian dollar was worth more than the U.S. dollar.
$1 Canadian was worth $1.25 U.S.....they were buying the hell out of US heavy equipment and farm machinery.
Ah, but still the Canucks come here to buy high end goods and take them back home. The reason, taxes! It's cheaper to pay the duty goin' across the border than it is to buy it in their home town.
For instance, sheet rock runs around $7 here. North of the border the price is $15! I think they can take as much as $2000 over duty free, every trip! So by the time ya figure gas money, as long as ya don't live in the Tundra, you're way ahead!
Same goes for Doors, Windows, Hardwood Flooring, etc, etc, etc........ Most Canucks I see load their cars, trucks, and trailers to the ceiling before they head back home! Yeah that universal healthcare they got is free!
( wink, wink )
