Tiverton candidate for Kennedy's seat sees better odds
« on: January 24, 2010, 10:13:05 AM »
Quote
An upstart Republican and state legislator with a military background vies for a seat long held by a member of the Kennedy family. No, it’s not U.S. Senator elect Scott Brown from Massachusetts, but rather Tiverton state representative John Loughlin, a Republican who represents District 71, covering Little Compton, Portsmouth and Tiverton.

Loughlin declared his candidacy for Patrick Kennedy’s First Congressional District post in April, but his campaign has been galvanized by Brown’s upset win earlier this week. Loughlin said he was not shocked to see Brown upset Martha Coakley for Edward Kennedy’s Senate seat.  ... “Until Scott Brown won, people thought my race was impossible,” said Loughlin. “The momentum has been tremendous. People are excited.”

I know this entire area well - Better than I know Boston, as its much closer to home (Ive almost always lived close to the Rhode Island border, and these towns are just on the other side) -- Anyway --

I would like to see success here, but Little Compton and Portsmouth (and to a lesser degree, Tiverton) are old money, small town people - I don't think that this candidate will resonate particularly well in and around Providence where the working class are.

And frankly, all there is in Rhode Island, is in or around Providence. The rest of the state is empty. Save for Newport, and only then during tourist season.

Thanks for the local info. Let's hope the anti-Dem feelings keep on the boil for a while longer, it would be great to finish off the last Kennedy political career.

It would be, yes - But - you know - a month ago, I gave Brown about a 10% chance of winning, and there is no Kennedy legacy in Rhode Island to deal with..   :-)

Will RI know what to do with a coherent Congress Critter? And will Kennedy be out of rehab long enough to campaign?
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

My aunt married a yankee, railroad man from R.I.....didn't see much of him, them living way up north and all. ....but boy was he different from the other yankees.
If it weren't for the thick accent, he would have fit right in with us rednecks down in the conservative south. He's fun to be around.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Sounds like he was from the Burrillville area - Its not that far from Providence (well, nothing is in Rhode Island) but when one visits, its as if one gets transported instantly to the south.

These people are typical, small town laborers - sons work the jobs that their fathers, grandfathers, great grandfathers, etc. worked.  http://www.burrillville.org/Public_Documents/BurrillvilleRI_WebDocs/about
