FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A teenager who killed four people while driving drunk has been sentenced to probation.

Prosecutors were pushing for 16-year-old Ethan Couch to spend 20 years in prison.  However, State District Judge Jean Boyd sentenced Couch to a decade of probation.

There was no debate about who was behind the wheel last June, when Couch plowed into and killed four people.  Couch has admitted to being the driver, and court records show his blood alcohol level was .24 at the time of the crash, three times the legal limit for an adult.  Prosecutors also presented evidence that Couch and some friends stole beer from a Burleson Walmart on June 15, the night of the crash.  After consuming the alcohol, Couch and seven others got back into his pickup to go to another store.  During the trip, he hit four pedestrians, killing them.  Two teens riding in Couch’s pickup were thrown from the truck and severely injured.

Couch’s attorneys argued his parents were responsible for the teen’s actions that night because of the way he had been raised.  Defense attorneys put a psychologist on the stand who testified Couch was a product of wealth and got whatever he wanted.  The psychologist also testified the teen was allowed to drink at a very young age and began driving at 13 years old.  Defense attorneys argued Couch needed treatment, not jail and suggested a facility that costs almost half a million dollars a year.

Talk about a major league spoiled brat!    Probation for killing four people????????

The family of a Burleson youth minister killed by a drunk driver in June filed a civil lawsuit this week against the 16-year-old driver, his parents and his parents’ company.

Ethan Anthony Couch was charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault in connection with the June 16 crash that killed Brian Paul Jennings, 43, youth pastor at Alsbury Baptist Church, Holli Boyles, 52, and her daughter Shelby Boyles, 21, all of Burleson, and Breanna Mitchell, 24, of Lillian.

Couch and seven teenagers who were passengers in his Ford F350 truck were all injured in the crash. Two of the passengers were critically injured and one, 15-year-old Sergio Molina, remains hospitalized and in a coma. His parents have also filed a civil suit against Couch, his parents and his parents’ company, which owned the Ford truck Couch was driving.

But on Oct. 3, authorities say the 66-year-old Fort Worth man encountered a 16-year-old boy intent on stealing money from Rein.

On a friend’s phone, the teen later told police, he called Domino’s Pizza, gave the false name Joseph and placed an order for four pizzas, cheesy sticks and two bottles of soda. He provided an address on Bessie Street, a house where he used to live and now knew to be vacant. Then he and three friends walked to a park across the street from the house and watched and waited.

Last year Judge Boyd sentenced a 14-year old boy to prison for killing one person with a powerful punch. The teenage suspect’s name was never made public since he was prosecuted as a juvenile.

'Just after 10 p.m. on October 6, the teen was riding in a Cadillac with two friends when he suddenly jumped out of the vehicle in the 1700 block of Vaughn Avenue and punched [Mark] Gregory, who was 5-foot-1 and weighed 106 pounds,' said the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office in a statement.

'Gregory’s head struck the pavement and he died two days later.'

The 14-year-old boy admitted to the crime and never expressed remorse for the murder, according to prosecutors.

Gregory’s mother, Anita Lauterbach, said she remembers Judge Boyd pushing for rehabilitation, much like in the Couch case.

Two Connecticut teens were charged last Thursday with reckless endangerment for failing to stop their friend from drunk driving. The 17-year-old girl had a blood alcohol content of .27 when she crashed her car into a tree and died on July 14, 2013, according to the Hartford Courant.

Police say Jane Modlesky, a senior at Glastonbury High School, was drinking at a party before the crash, reports CBS affiliate WFSB.

The station reports that Modlesky was inside the Honda Pilot with four male teens prior to the accident in the summer. One by one, the male teens reportedly drove themselves home and then left Modlesky to get home by herself in the car. Police say they were "well aware...she was highly intoxicated."

A young boy who needed an ass kicking a long time ago made a major mistake (after a series of them) and it finally cost some people their lives. This wasn't an innocent accident (unintentional was all) and the judge shouldn't have treated it like that. He should have gotten some jail time, especially if that is going to continue to be the way we punish those that hurt others. The runt will change after this irregardless.

None of the drivers that took the lives of our family members ever had any punishment,    They continued with their lives, grew up and married, raised their kids  and at no time gave a thought to the life they had taken, 6 feet down under ground that that could not ever live a life as they had.

Any other regular Joe Smoe would be facing life in prison for just killing one person while DUI, but this rich ass punk gets of clean with only probation. I hope he has an absolute dick of probation officer that won't hesitate to throw his ass in prison for the slightest violation.

FORT WORTH — North Texas prosecutors are trying a second time to imprison a teen who was sentenced last week to 10 years’ probation for drunkenly driving his truck into four pedestrians, killing them all.

Tarrant County District Attorney Joe Shannon has asked a juvenile judge to put 16-year-old Ethan Couch behind bars on two cases of intoxication assault that he says are still pending before the court, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Tuesday.

“During his recent trial, the 16-year-old admitted his guilt in four cases of intoxication manslaughter and two cases of intoxication assault,” Shannon said in an email to the newspaper. “There has been no verdict formally entered in the two intoxication assault cases. Every case deserves a verdict.”

He is yet to be tried for the two intoxication assault.

The North Texas intoxication manslaughter case involving "affluenza" teen Ethan Couch touched off more controversy Wednesday, as the teen was spared further jail time but ordered to rehab.

The Tarrant County 16-year-old was back in court Wednesday after prosecutors requested jail time on charges related to two people who suffered injuries in the crash that killed four others last June.

Additionally, Judge Jean Boyd was scheduled to decide where Couch would go for his rehabilitation sentence. Couch was sentenced to a stint in rehab and 10 years probation last year after admitting to intoxication manslaughter charges in the fatal crash.

Ethan Couch, Judge Boyd, and his parents are criminals.
