Hi,

I got this letter from a friend of mine who is retired Air Force.  I think the writer pretty well puts the stupid Ms. Williams right where she belongs.  The problem with these Hollywood nitwits is that the response will probably not even be understood by her.   :libssuck:

Wrong Cindy Williams. There just happens to be a columnist with the same name as the actress that played Shirley Feeney.

Although I fully agree with the point the airman was making.  I wonder when he wrote it?

According to the DoD pay scale for 2008, even an E1 under 2 years of service grosses $1347.00 monthly.

Which is above the $1,117.80 mentioned in the e-mail.

An E1 in 2009 makes a bit more than in 2008.

FYI....

False attribution to the actress mentioned in the e-mail and story dates back to 2001.

Hi,

Two things.  First I plan to send the snopes stuff back to the guy who sent it to me.  This is a first for him but he needs to know just as much as I did.

Second, someone investigates Snopes and discoverd it was basically a guy and his wife who had the website and their credibility really came into question.  I am sure they got this one right but there were others where they supposedly just guessed or something.

Is there another "truth" site that anyone know of where these things can be checked out?

thanks,

I can not personally vouch for either of these sites.

I found them via googling Cindy Williams + military pay.

Hi,

Thanks a lot.

You know I have to say something.  It is really starting to bother me about all the stuff we are seeing that appears to be made up stuff.  First, it wastes our time and second it really shows to me that we are vulnerable.  By that I mean that BO supposedly has a bunch of folks capable of sending out like a million emails or something.  Let an issue come up and they can flood the email inboxes of half the country with propaganda.....  It is also one of those things where I do not believe that you should fight fire with fire....  Seems to me the internet can be rigged just like the mainstream media.

Thanks for taking the time to check this stuff out.  I will confess I have not used Google and realized that i should be doing so.  Never professed to be a computer wizard but I think I can handle that one.

The best way to avoid propagating BS, no matter who it favors, is to not forward these tales without checking them out.  I like Snopes myself, some here don't but I haven't seen any of them come up with anything better.  After scanning through Truthorfiction, I doubt they'd like it any better, it appears to go very slightly Left of center on some of the topical political background.
