HONOLULU (AP) — It's no Mount Vernon, but the Honolulu apartment building where President Barack Obama grew up might become a national landmark.Hawaii lawmakers are pushing to put the 12-story, 1960s-era building on the National Register of Historic Places. The building is the first childhood home of a U.S. president that's a high-rise rental.Obama was born in Honolulu and lived in a 10th-floor apartment in the building from 1971 to 1979, when he graduated from high school. His grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, rented a unit in the building for 41 years until she died just before Obama was elected president last year.
I was expecting it to be some mud hut in Africa.
