For as pretty as Vancouver is, it pretty much is a shithole.  Think San Fran with crappier weather.

I usually think of it as all the corruption of old Seattle but no money.

That comparison runs a pretty close second.  First time I was in Esquimalt/Victoria, a bunch of us took a trip to Vancouver.  We universally regarded as a wasted trip.

Exactly.  According to Michael Moore Canadians are more peaceful than Americans... and their gun laws prevent such acts of violence.
