Title: Conservative Fiction & Fiction Writers
Post by: The Village Idiot on April 23, 2009, 06:33:48 PM
I have just created a site for fiction writers on the conservative-libertarian side thats not a gun-centric site. No baggage. The storyboard where we will post stories for critique, comment, advice and such is members only.

So I guess nobody cares?

Uh, sir, these things don't take off running.

They start off slow, and pick up speed.

Give it six weeks, a couple of months.

Crawl down off the Judas Chair before you start twisting.  You'll get your participants.  Listen to Frank.  He's a smart man.

I would suggest that the primary submission requirement be that the author is conservative but place no requisite that the plot being conservative themed. In other words it should be acceptable to have entertainment for entertainment's sake.

Do you have content standards? Obviously writing about Japanese amputee midget porn would fall outside the intent of the website but some authors--like me for instance--can be fairly graphic when describing plot relevant details.

Will you ensure that the authors retain all copy rights?

There aren't any rules at all yet. I would have to say its a good idea not to post things you might like to sell someday, it is an easy thing to steal and repaste online, I think the AP and others learned that.

Now I'm working on a new book, have a first draft of my work so far.

Copyright law covers for electronic publishing but what you have to answer is whether the author retains all or some rights or do you consider stories posted at you site to be "work for hire" wherein the publisher assumes all rights.

That needs to be answered up front and posted on the site.

I or the site would own nothing others publish. They always have the option of deleting their posts later.
