EPA expected to act in regulating carbon dioxide

WASHINGTON: The Environmental Protection Agency is expected to act for the first time to regulate carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that scientists blame for the warming of the planet, according to top Obama administration officials.

The decision, which most likely would play out in stages over a period of months, would have a profound impact on transportation, manufacturing costs and how utilities generate power. It could accelerate the progress of energy and climate change legislation in Congress and form a basis for the United States' negotiating position at United Nations climate talks set for December in Copenhagen.

The environmental agency is under order from the Supreme Court to make a determination whether carbon dioxide is a pollutant that endangers public health and welfare, an order that the Bush administration essentially ignored despite near-unanimous belief among agency experts that research points inexorably to such a finding.

Lisa Jackson, the new EPA administrator, said in an interview that she had asked her staff to review the latest scientific evidence and prepare the documentation for a so-called endangerment finding. Jackson said she had not decided to issue such a finding but she pointedly noted that the second anniversary of the Supreme Court decision, Massachusetts v. EPA, is April 2, and there is the wide expectation that she will act by then.

Hey, Uncle Zer0, you and your fellow moonbats gonna hold your breath for a year or two?  :bigbird:

Pass this one, and the EPA will grow exponentially.

But plants need CO2.

Mommy, why does Obama hate the pretty, pretty flowers?

I just thought of how we can get the liberals to dump L'il O:

The Whitehouse is at 80 degrees and Air Force One hasn't had a chance to cool off since Obama took office. SOOOOOO, Maybe Rush or some other famous personality could track Obama's carbon footprint? Maybe an overlay map with the dates and the fuel consumption of his many trips?

It is normal for liberals to expound on the evils of CO2 production but then do all they can to produce as much CO2 as possible. Someone should call them on it.

It's only a matter of time before they start regulating EVERYTHING we do.

Do these asshats not know that carbon dioxide is ESSENTIAL to the planet? And without "greenhouse gasses", we'd all freeze?

WASHINGTON (AP) — Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says he wants to consider taxing motorists based on how many miles they drive rather than how much gasoline they burn — an idea that has angered drivers in some states where it has been proposed.

Gasoline taxes that for nearly half a century have paid for the federal share of highway and bridge construction can no longer be counted on to raise enough money to keep the nation's transportation system moving, LaHood said in an interview with The Associated Press.

"We should look at the vehicular miles program where people are actually clocked on the number of miles that they traveled," the former Illinois Republican lawmaker said.

Most transportation experts see a vehicle miles traveled tax as a long-term solution, but Congress is being urged to move in that direction now by funding pilot projects.

The idea also is gaining ground in several states. Governors in Idaho and Rhode Island are talking about such programs, and a North Carolina panel suggested in December the state start charging motorists a quarter-cent for every mile as a substitute for the gas tax.

A tentative plan in Massachusetts to use GPS chips in vehicles to charge motorists by the mile has drawn complaints from drivers who say it's an Orwellian intrusion by government into the lives of citizens. Other motorists say it eliminates an incentive to drive more fuel-efficient cars since gas guzzlers will be taxed at the same rate as fuel sippers.

The biggest greenhouse gas is water vapor, not carbon dioxide. If we got rid of water vapor, we would get rid of warming, but also kill most of Earth's life. The biggest opponents to Global Warming is meteorologists. The proponent of Global Warming was an astronomer. Astronomer know nothing about the weather, granted many have interests in it.

They're not interested in reducing CO2.  They just need an excuse to tax it.

And what does clean hydrogen fuel produce.....water vapor.

who is to say what the "proper" level of CO2 in the atmosphere is?  one of the biggest holes is al gore's argument is that it was perfect in 1969 when the subject caught his attention. :whatever:

EPA actually fought this, but the enviro-freaks that sued them over it won.

How about the damn fool who came up with the 175.00 per tax on beef cattle, or 150.00 per dairy cow. USDA now is making us tag and document every livestock animal. They are boldly and purposely trying to put small farmers out of business. Thank God I have a day job to go with my farming.
