Well, my Mazda 6 just had it's first problem tonight.
This same thing happened with the 626, and it's obnoxious.
The seatbelt light came on, even while I was wearing the seatbelt, and stayed on while I was driving. :banghead: It also let off this equally obnoxious warning beep telling me I needed to put my seatbelt on. :censored:
Any ideas on how to resolve it, without taking it to the dealership (like I did with the 626)?

But with my past experience with the 626 and the false alarm with the engine check light, I'm just a little paranoid.

I rent cars a LOT. That has happened to me more than once when I have put my travel bag or even some beer on the passenger seat. Some are just more sensitive than others.

I rent cars a LOT. That has happened to me more than once when I have put my travel bag or even some beer on the passenger seat. Some are just more sensitive than others.
Mazda is supposed to be superior to all other car-makers (at least in my humble opinion :p ) yet they make a hypersensitive seatbelt sensor? :p
I hate driving around with that obnoxious beep ringing in my ear... I think an adjustment needs to be made, if at all possible.

I need to google the subject, I guess, and see what solutions there are, outside of visiting dealerships. (I will not be taking my car back to the Savannah Mazda dealership... they screwed the car up in another area).

It is hyper sensitive because you never know when you will finally break down and pick up some seriously underfed hippie who needs a ride and they don't want you getting sued because you bumped into a curb while parking and throwing said hippie against the dash board.

It's a 2007 Mazda 6... that car will be with me for awhile, given how new it is (and that damn car note).

My non-Mazda has a passenger seat sensor. If there is less than 45 pounds in the seat, the airbag on that side is automatically deactivated. Don't know if there is a seat belt sensor on that side or not.
The first step is usually "rebooting" the car, ie. disconnecting the negative battery cable for a few minutes. If that doesn't reset the sensor, the dealership may be able to do it through the OBD. Is your car still under the bumper-to-bumper warranty? They'll usually do it at no cost if it is.

Nope, the warranty is done. I recently got an automated message from the dealership about it expiring, and asking me to consider an extended warranty. ::)
