« on: July 02, 2010, 09:45:41 AM »
The Schwarzenegger administration today ordered State Controller John Chiang to reduce state worker pay for July to the federal minimum allowed by law -- $7.25 an hour for most state workers.

The instructions from the Department of Personnel Administration exclude roughly 37,000 state workers in six bargaining units that recently came to tentative labor agreements with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. ...

Smoke and mirrors. Once they have a budget the employees will receive back pay so what's this mean?  That article is pretty thin on real details.  Why will only 37K out of 240K total state employees receive the cut?  I smell BS and bandaids.

37K is the number excluded, not the number getting the cut.

That's sure gonna piss a lot of folks off.

And a lot of those lower-end workers are SEIU folks.

right

I jump sometimes before digesting.  Still an interesting concept to exclude some, I really want more details.

Does this exclude police and firefighters?

Why not go a step further and hire illegals for $1.15 an hour? With all the sanctuary cities it ought to be a snap.

I'm sure that CA has way more than 37K union members , so some of those cut must be union members.

I am okay with everyone taking a paycut, starting at the top.  I always love how they say that "most" word, which usually means the lowest paid workers anyway, who don't have a lot of control or choice.
You want to cut spending, then start at the top with the federal government.  First start by putting our congressman on an hourly wage and make them puch a clock everytime they are "working".  Then because they are don't work full-time, they should get part-time benefits.  Fred Smith at FedEx cut all his upper management's salary last year, starting with his.  Furthermore, he cut his at a higher precent then his management.  I especially am impressed with him doing this because he founded that company and built it up from the ground, unlike these people we have in our government who got there by way of a popularity contest.
America is number one, and if you don't believe that either help make it better or get out!!!

According to the San Fran Rag, the number getting a pay cut is 200,000. That's a good start. Of course, the Dim comptroller is fighting it.

The governor has the authority to lower most state workers' pay to the federal minimum wage if a state budget isn't in place, a state appeals court ruled Friday, the second day of California's 2010-11 fiscal year.

The ruling came one day after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger ordered the state controller to cut pay for about 200,000 state workers to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

They don't show up, they get fired and replaced with lower paid employees of less seniority.

Isn't it nice how Arnold gives them the Federal minimum wage and not the HIGHER CA minimum wage?

And yet, Arnold still allows the illegal aliens to collect some $1200/ mo for rent, foods stamps, WIC, free medical and some other assorted bennies. Illegals are bankrupting many states, California being the first.

Maybe the higher class "Full time" deadbeats have left the state and now there working on getting rid of the lower class "working poor". Soon the only ones left will be the illegals and the rich movie stars that hire them......perfect communist utopia.

That sounds like a better deal than social security.

Who can live on $7.25/hr? I know people do it, but there is no way my husband and I could survive on that kind of income and raise our child. Daycare alone would eat up most of that.

What is the average these state workers are working at now? How much of a paycut will they be taking?  Seems he could grandfather the ones that already are working these state jobs in, and set the new wage for newcomers. I don't know. Maybe that is not a good idea either, but I know this would devastate my family financially if we were state workers. I could go work at McDonald's for that.

You sure can't do it in California.  Tennessee, maybe, and a few other places, but definitely not CA.
