I have yet to hear of a joger being attacked running with a big dog. How about car jacking, not alot of people get attacked and car stolen with a Rottie in the back seat.

I have reciently heard of a dog called a Russian Black Terrier, very odd dog, big dog 150 lbs and has this odd querk of needing to within eyesight of their master 24/7. From what I hear these very strong beasts refuse to eat if the master does not themselves feed them.
To own a dog of this breed one must be prepared to take that dog EVERYWHERE they go, The beast need alot of training, good with infants and older kids, cats and other dogs. Be prepared to have the beast watching you take a shower and sleep with in 2 feet of you at night.
They have this instinct to read their masters emotions, After being let out in the yard for more then 30 minutes they will run the house trying to look in the frigin windows to find their master.
It is the deturent that matters. believe it or not ones body language can make the creepies back off.
Johnny, living in the back woods of Tenn I can tell yah, I did have a shot gun beside the front door and I knew how to use it. Dirt roads helped to tell when someone was comming down the road. Who were they, what were they doing on that road.?

Deterent, with a hand gun I can easily miss my target if I am taken by surprise, however a good sized dog with a mouth full of teeth is like our nuclear defence.
