Are they also known as sugar gliders ?No, these are the real thing.
Do they taste better fried or grilled?

How many do y'all have Skul? Where do they take care of their uhm, outside type business?Hate to say it....15.
KC
Hate to say it....15.
Eight are youngsters slated for release.
They do their business in their cages.
They do other things in the cages, too.
That's why we have youngsters that need release. :lmao:
LOL! so y'all release them? I guess they fare ok ...
You could bring a few out here and we could bait in a couple of eagles for some great pictures!
KC

Slightly off topic but when I was 10 I rescued a baby gray squirrel who had been orphaned by a hurricane (can't remember which one) and he lived with us for about 3 months until he was old enough to be released. I named him Chippy (yeah, real original, right?) and he lived in an old bird cage we had. He would sit on my shoulder while I walked around the house -- he was SO cute!I don't think that's off topic at all. Nice that you could release him.
Of course, this drove our cocker spaniel friggin' nuts!!!! :lmao:
A few more photos of flyers.
Two day old babies and their mother.

We've raised and released a lot of squirrels.
Here's another squirrel story then. I was 19 and home from college for the summer, sitting in the living room and reading a book. All of a sudden, there's a lot of sliding, scratching and squeaking noises coming from the fireplace. Apparently a squirrels nest had been built on top of the chimney and it had fallen through so the chimney was full of squirrels. My dad got a cardboard box and his heavy work gloves, opened the flue but he had enormous hands and couldn't get both of them up far enough to get the squirrels, who were clinging to the insides of the brick chimney. So I told him I'd try. He gives me the gloves and I reach in and grab a baby and put it in the box and my dad closes it. I successfully do this 3 more times (all babies) who all go into the box, no problem. One last time I reach in and realize I don't have a baby this time, I have mommy squirrel, who promptly bites the hell out of my index finger (her teeth went completely through it). I hung on to her, yanked her out of the chimney and sort of slam dunked her into the box! Then I closed the flue.:lmao: Even welders gloves aren't safe for adult squirrels.
We take the box outside and let them go. Mommy squirrel, not 30 minutes later, falls down the stupid chimney again and dad threw up his hands and said "I'm calling animal control!" He also called a chimney guy to put a wire cover over the top of the chimney.
And I got to have a nice tetanus shot! I still have the bite scar.
Elle Belle, gets her worm snack.
Only way to get her to hold still, is to feed her.

Meal worms?Yes, and Wax worms, too. They also eat moths, spiders, and other insects.

A couple for JLO.
First is Spanky, second, Bucky.
Do they imprint ?No, not really. They become "peopled", as in accepting human as friends.
No, not really. They become "peopled", as in accepting human as friends.
If done right, they can be acclimated back into the wild. Just takes time.
My first one thought he was a people.
He'd drink beer and watched NASCAR. He was a cool squirrel.
Are they anything like parrots who come to see their masters as lifelong family members ?Not really sure. They are a bit of a social animal, so I think they see you more as part of their colony.
What fun!I wish we had more maples down here. They do like those seeds.
My ex-FIL had quite a few regular squirrel friends. They would sit on his shoulders and eat the nuts he put in his shirt pockets.
Nowadays, we have a little red squirrel and a chipmunk who come up on the deck and are both fun to watch. They enjoy the maple helicopter seeds that float down. Now that my strawberry plants are ripening, we had to move the portable planter box from the wooden bench they were on, onto the very top of the stainless steel grill. They were both getting into them I think. After moving, so far, so good.
Thanks for the pics!

I think Flyers are the original pocket monsters.
Piglet is eating herself out of any glide contest trophies.
The little Fox squirrel is doing well. He's up to 74 grams now.No more updates without updating piglet !
I expect eyes open in a couple more days.
One of the Flyers (Elle), found him the other day. She licked the spill-over milk from his face.
No more updates without updating piglet !Piglet
^Much better. She's so cute !She's very "personed". Loves to be petted.
She's very "personed". Loves to be petted.Because she's plus size doesn't mean she doesn't have feelings !
They all have a very seperate personality.
^Wow, that's LIVE ACTION !They're a fun little animal. Not for everyone.

Good run down on the parrots.. I don't mind at all.
One thing I meant to ask Skul about the flyers -- what about bites and other types of aggression? Do you see any of that?
I don't need no rodents flying or gliding around our place.Get a hamster, ya old grouch.
Had them when I was a kid. Then our kids had hamsters, gerbils, snakes and a ferret.Excellent treatise on Parrots. In the future I will Parrot Your treatise, and plagiarize it !

An update on the orange-winged Amazon (his name is Paulie):That's just great that you could get Paulie to do that. For such an old bird, I'm very impressed. :cheersmate:
Wearing thin leather gloves (an absolute necessity as an Amazon's bite is extremely strong, second to only that of a macaw or cockatoo), I got Paulie to step up and remain on my hand. Yes, he bit into the glove, but not as ferociously as he had before.
Stepping up on a human hand is a first for him. He's almost 50 years old, and I believe firmly that he's never had anybody work with him like Mrs E and I have.
And then this morning, I put him in the tub for a shower. Afterwards, I cornered him in the tub, again wearing gloves, and he stepped up freely and stayed on my hand all the way back to his cage.
He is learning that the big, bad human hand really ain't so bad after all.
That's just great that you could get Paulie to do that. For such an old bird, I'm very impressed. :cheersmate:
Most people don't quite understand that they live that long.
Squirrels, when properly cared for, can live twelve years.
The wife and I raised Tiels, Love birds and Keets, for a while.
It became a burden, and we stopped.
Flyers, are something that the wife and I do.
We do not raise them for sale, and never will.
They, are our hobby, and love,
I thought you meant the Richmond Flying Sqirrels!Minor league ball can be a lot more fun to watch, than the big boys.

The most fun you can possibly have for $10 (that is for the premium seats!)
I have my Inaugural Year memorabilia :)
Interesting looking critters, Skul. They sure are. A lot of people are unaware they have them, for that reason.
Huge eyes. I think you said they're nocturnal?
That top one would make some good eatin'! I love squirrel. Although, I've never had squirrel wings ...They're pretty thin on the meat end. :-)
:-)

The young Fox squirrel is doing very well. He's up to 140 grams now.Too cute.
Eyes opened a few days ago. He's exploring and being a pain in the ass.
Looks like Piglet needs to go on the Fat Girl program. :-)The haul ass in 2 trips program !
She ain't fat, she's just "big boned"!!
In the event anyone wonders what my DUmp mole looks like.Do they get along with flying squirrels, or are they more like their namesakes and don't get along well with others ?
Do they get along with flying squirrels, or are they more like their namesakes and don't get along well with others ?Nasty little shits. No sense of humor at all.
Nasty little shits. No sense of humor at all.
Probably couldn't even get alone with Franksolich.
You'd be a nasty little shit too if you were blind and did nothing but dig for grubs.I'm half blind, and my wife can't cook for shit.

Three of the youngsters will be going to their release home tomorrow.
The foxer can be placed in a release cage now for acclimation.
The two young grays, will need another six or seven weeks before they're ready.
The flyers are all doing well. Piglet, does not like having the foxer in the house.
She went after him the other night, and all hell broke loose.
Poor Moses was yelling his heart out.
Who is Moses?Moses is a young foxer we took in when he was very young.
Moses is a young foxer we took in when he was very young.
The first pic is after we had him for a week. The second, just a few days ago.
He was named Moses, because the nest resembled a basket.
Moses is pretty much an adult now, and will do fine.
Where will they winter? Cute little critters!
Skul, you need to bodge together a flying squirrel wind tunnel, so they can get in there and spread their wings. Hey, hamsters get hamster ferris wheel treadmills !You haven't seen anything, till you see a flyer on one of those wheels.
You haven't seen anything, till you see a flyer on one of those wheels.
They put hamsters to shame.
When the wheel gets up to speed, they stop running and ride it. Then do it again.
Funniest thing you ever saw.
It looks like you put these rascals in cages. Do they mix well? Or do you have to separate them? With parrots, it's not a good idea to mix them up, unless they're a breeding pair or bonded to each other.Flyers are never mixed with other types of animals.
Never a dull moment.
Then after about six weeks.
Total concentration on the task at hand.
One happy little squirrel.
You get some incredible closeups. Are you using a filter, or a macro lens, or something else?Had to look. those were with a 100mm macro. Normally I use a 24-105 zoom, with same results.
Furry porno?Squirrel porn. :-)
Squirrel nut zippers?Hey, Wineslob, how's those fishin' poles going?
Hey, Wineslob, how's those fishin' poles going?
I gotta admire the work you guys do to those.
Hey Skul when we meet up at Texacons casa are you going to bring one of your little buddies with you? Like to see them.I don't know if that would be possible.
Here's a fun little squirrel story with pics.A little Eastern Gray. We've raised several.

Looks like you got a talent for the squirrel types der bud!We enjoy the little tree rats. Kind of fun to photograph.
Binky went and got herself knocked up again. At least we're pretty sure.
She's building nests all over the place.
We don't need any more baby flyers.

The trees around my house are full of those little buggers. Make some interesting noises at night...If you're patient......
How different are sugar gliders and the flyers ?They're marsupials from Australia, and have a different diet.
Oh, Elle Belle, what big EYES you have! :yahoo:The better to see you with !
If you're patient......
How much is 9 in squirrel years ?A very old one would be twelve, so figure that as 100.
Spanky can't put his back feet down because? Belly's too full? That must be it. :whistling:
That must be it. :whistling:
