Title: Final installment of the Wheel of Time series
Post by: Splashdown on October 02, 2012, 11:41:32 AM
...is coming out in January. The prologue is already available electronically--I recommend it.

Curse you, Robert Jordan, for writing three amazing books (the first three of the series), several mediocre ones, and then up and dying before you could finish the series.

Brandon Sanderson has done a fantastic job closing the series out in the last two books. I've been with this series since Eye of the World in 1990. Hard to believe the series finally will be over.

Any other WOT fans who have fought through the entire freaking series?

I have.  I wasn't aware that the final installment was out yet.  That will be my next Kindle purchase.

I started with WOT many years ago.  I loved the first 3 books then ..... eh, I couldn't make it through 3 more.  I finally just gave up after book 6 or 7.

The whole book is coming out in January. The prologue is out already. It's good.

FYI, here's a pretty cool link with synopses of all the previous books.

Yup. At one time I was writing "Robert", we both have/had the sickness known as fishing. I've kept the letters he wrote and the book plates he was kind enough to send me. I'll be getting the book in hardbound, first edition.

I finished it Saturday. What a great book. Memory Of Light is by far a better read and ending than I was expecting.

A solid ending to what is, overall, a fantastic series. I'm actually a bit sad it's over. That was 21 years of my life.

I feel the same way. I have known Perrin, Mat, Rand and the rest for 20 years. I almost feel like I know them. Reading the book I was excited, but when I finished and set it down I was sad that it was over.

I just started the series this last year, now on book four.
After reading the Game of Thrones I do enjoy these series, although good Lord it is long. 11,000+ pages... at least I have something to read for the next year or so.

Looks like we're in the minority.  1-4 I liked. I barely got through 5 and didn't bother with the others.  It got bogged down with too much minutiae for my taste.

Books 6 through 10 could have been condensed down to 1 book in my opinion. There was a lot of filler that was not all that pertinent to the story.

I looked at my bookshelf and saw that the spine on 6 was bent.  So I know I read it, but can't remember much about it since it didn't hold my attention.  I must have skipped portions.

I'm sure what you say about condensing is true and can be said for many of the sagas.  I like Goodkind, but started to feel the same about his saga although I waded through them all.  The one I never tire of is Modesitt's Recluce stuff.

They start to drag, but it's definitely worth it to finish the series.

Finished it last night. Ya the ending was not quite what I expected, and the "loose ends" (Cadsuane) have left open other books for other authors.

It was a good run Robert.
