Florida GOP Gov. Charlie Crist vetoed a Republican-supported teacher pay bill Thursday, a move that heightened speculation that he is considering waging an independent bid for Senate.

The contentious bill, which would have linked teacher pay to student test results, carried the backing of prominent Republican legislators and had been promoted by popular former GOP Gov. Jeb Bush, who championed the measure through his foundation in TV ads.

Crist’s move came amid increasing questions about whether he is planning to abandon the Republican Senate primary, where polls show him trailing former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio by double-digits, and run as an independent candidate in November.

While the Crist campaign has repeatedly denied rumors of a potential third-party bid—and Crist has publicly said he “is running as a Republican”—the Crist camp has left just enough wiggle room in its recent statements to fan the speculation.

Crist is going to run as an independent.

That poll was probably the one that purports to show he can win a 3-way race.

Did the RNC endorse him? Oh wait, their too busy giving money to Al Sharpton. Newt and Dede Scozzafava needs to get down there and support him stat!
