WASHINGTON — The State Department says it will renew Blackwater USA’s license to protect diplomats in Baghdad for one year, but a final decision about whether the private security company will keep the job is pending.

A top State Department official said that because the FBI is still investigating last year’s fatal shooting of Baghdad civilians, there is no reason not to renew the contract when it comes due in May. North Carolina-based Blackwater has a five-year deal to provide personal protection for diplomats, which is reauthorized each year.

Blackwater's Iraq Contract Renewed Despite Investigations

WASHINGTON — Amid investigations into fatal shootings of civilians and allegations of tax violations, Blackwater USA's multimillion-dollar contract to protect diplomats in Baghdad has been renewed, the State Department said Friday.

A final decision about whether the private security company will keep the job is pending, the department said. Moyock, N.C.-based Blackwater is one of the largest private military contractors, receiving nearly $1.25 billion in federal business since 2000, according to a House committee estimate.

3. Thank you for digging this one out of the Friday News Dump
Hopefully we can get this one to get legs.

I support the troops, I do not support the mercenaries or the people making money off of the Iraq War.

First..... :lmao: for the legs comment. Second  :bird: you don't support the troops anymore than you support George W. Bush :bird:

I get the feeling that DUmmies are afraid of Blackwater...it seems that the threads about BW are never very big, that they are scared to say anything really negative.... :loser:

If they only had a clue what actually goes on in Iraq; they would know that BW and other PMC's do what is most times a very mundane job.
