Old fly rod

Dblhaul:
Nice. My former boss doesn't fish, and if he did he would chuck bait. LOL.

Wineslob:
Here is the Fishkill. The restored sections (blue tape is for varnish) are to the left of an original that I fish. Tip section (on the right) has 3 more guides than what the rods came with, which help them cast better. The guide spacing differences are, from what I can tell, from different manufacturing years.

Dblhaul:
Do you keep the original guides or go with newer ones to cast plastic lines? Or, do you fish silk lines?

Wineslob:
I use the original ones when possible, and I haven't noticed where plastic lines have any difficulty.
Never have used silk.

Dblhaul:
Nice. I have never upsized for plastic lines, have heard of some who do.
I have a few silk lines, they cast great because of the smaller diameter but need to be dried out after a good morning of fishing.
Also have some Cortland "Sylk" lines, they are fine for closer in fishing but lack the back bone for longer casts.
I'll be checking the NFCDL in a week or so, trying for some winter fish before the melt starts.
