This is after we all knew about the attempts to contact Al Qaeda, and the calls to hi former Imam.

Someone with actual knowledge clue me in please...but I was under the impression that if a member of the military were known to have ties to a radical imam (I know, redundant) and known to have contacted Al Qaeda, then maybe that individual would be, like, closely watched?  Confronted maybe?  Investigated?  Instead, this sad sack was about to be deployed!  What gives?

Supposedly he was investigated by the FBI, and the military was notified. His correspondence with the Imam was deemed to be related to a research paper he was writing on PTS.  How a fanatical Imam would have valuable knowledge of PTS is my question.
