U.S. manufacturing activity hits record low in June

July 3 (UPI) -- U.S. manufacturing activity is on the decline as a push to clear out existing inventories collided with a downturn in new orders, various indices showed on Monday.

"The health of the U.S. manufacturing sector took a sharp turn for the worse in June, adding to concerns over the economy potentially slipping into recession in the second half of the year," said Chris Williamson, the chief business economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence. "Leading the darkening picture was a severe drop in demand for goods, with new orders slumping at a rate among the steepest since the global financial crisis of 2009."

A survey published last week by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas finds that inflation is still creating headwinds for manufacturers. Respondents said the cost of new materials, parts and shipping are on the rise. Spending from end users, meanwhile, remains on the decline.

Another Friday afternoon, another suspiciously timed hit piece on Hasidim by Eliza Shapiro and Brian M. Rosenthal. Those are the two New York Times reporters who’ve made a name for themselves attacking New York’s Orthodox Jewish communities, as we reported here:

The Hasidic schools have been “breaking the law” (emphasis added), the two breathlessly reported this past Friday, shortly before the Sabbath and the July 4th weekend media dead zone.

The reporters were referring to New York City officials’ findings that 18 yeshivas failed to comply with the state “substantial equivalency” regulations for educating their students.

But the Times provided no links to those findings. And the City refused to release them, as of this morning, according to Yeshiva World News, which raised questions about the City’s role in its tweet. Why did the City send the letters to the New York Times while ignoring their requests to see them:  “Where Are The NYC Letters About Yeshiva Education?”

The Yeshivas probably provide a superior education, but compete with PSs and teach morals, so bureaucrats are abusing the vagueness of "substantial equivalency". Many/most states' ed codes use similar language, but use the term less creatively ... so far.

Jaden Smith, the son of actor Will Smith and actress Jada Pinkett Smith, has claimed that his mom introduced psychedelic drugs to his family.

Smith made his claim while speaking at the Psychedelic Science conference in Denver on Friday where he said that the drugs made him a more empathetic person.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott (D) took aim at states like Florida and Virginia for not having stricter gun control laws because he says their laws result in cases such as the mass shooting that took place in his city over the weekend.

The mass shooting at a block party just after midnight resulted in almost 30 people being shot with two others killed. The New York Times reports most of the victims were teenagers and there was more than one shooter. At this time, it is not known where the firearms that were used originated from.

"Mayor Scott, you said this year alone Baltimore pd confiscated 1,300 illegal weapons. Do you have a sense of where guns are coming from, the sort of illegal supply of guns are coming from into the city?" CNN's Audie Cornish asked.

"These guns come into Maryland – I want to be very clear about this – because Maryland has gun laws that actually have an impact. We have a ghost gun ban, which is why you see those numbers coming down. But these weapons come from Virginia. They come from Texas. They come from Florida. They come from Alabama. They come from everywhere in this country," Scott replied.

Gee, maybe BPD should be allowed to keep thugs behind bars while awaiting trial.

BREAKING: Federal judge issues injunction against WH, gov't agencies on speech suppression

Happy birthday, America — and RIP to its newly erected “Ministry of Truth.” That term comes directly from federal Judge Terry Doughty in the Western District of Louisiana, who issued an injunction a couple of hours ago that takes direct aim at the government-media censorship complex. Concluding that plaintiffs in the lawsuit have a strong likelihood of proving that the US government suppressed dissent — and particularly conservative dissent — Doughty ordered the Biden administration and its executive agencies to cease any coordination with social-media companies:

The Plaintiffs are likely to succeed on the merits in establishing that the Government has used its power to silence the opposition. Opposition to COVID-19 vaccines; opposition to COVID-19 masking and lockdowns; opposition to the lab-leak theory of COVID-19; opposition to the validity of the 2020 election; opposition to President Biden’s policies; statements that the Hunter Biden laptop story was true; and opposition to policies of the government officials in power. All were suppressed. It is quite telling that each example or category of suppressed speech was conservative in nature. This targeted suppression of conservative ideas is a perfect example of viewpoint discrimination of political speech. American citizens have the right to engage in free debate about the significant issues affecting the country.

This is an injunction, not a decision on the merits of the case.

San Francisco reparations panelist calls straight white men are ‘serial killers’

A member of San Francisco’s slavery reparations committee blasted straight white men as a “danger to society” — and claimed “white supremacy is ingrained in the DNA” of America.

Nikcole Cunningham, who serves on the California city’s 15-person African American Reparations Advisory Committee, launched the broadside against straight white men in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

“Straight white men are abusive. Straight white men are serial killers,” Cunningham told the news outlet. “They have the most — I watch these shows — the most serial killers. Straight white men are the ones who are shooting up schools, right?

Since some 97% of men are straight ... not that Nikcole Cunningham would know why that is significant. A disproportionate % of killers are black ... but I doubt that Nikcole Cunningham would acknowledge that fact.
