Spotify Appears To Take New Action Against Joe Rogan

NOTE: I did a search on the term "Spotify" to gauge if there was any other relevant post pertaining to that hosting service and Joe Rogan's podcast, but found nothing of substance. Mods, if this belongs elsewhere, please shuffle accordingly.

Back to the issue: Spotify apparently is bowing to the pressure they're getting and are doing so in the ol' dagger-in-the-back method that leftists, socialists, and communists love.

Spotify appears to have removed approximately 70 episodes of Joe Rogan’s “The Joe Rogan Experience” as the company faces continued left-wing pressure to boot Rogan, their top performer, from the platform.

“The apparent removal of the episodes, all of which were recorded years before the pandemic began, was spotted by JREMissing,” CNET reported. “The fan-made website uses Spotify’s API to compare available episodes to a database of all episodes recorded.”

Gizmodo reported that it “manually checked” JREMissing’s claim that the episodes had been removed and “confirmed the site’s assessment.”

The move comes after Spotify CEO Daniel Ek reportedly told employees on Wednesday that the platform does not have editorial discretion over Joe Rogan’s #1-rated podcast. The Los Angeles Times reported that the company does not screen his guest list and only takes action after episodes are published.

The article was primarily based off sources who appeared eager to cast the company in a negative light and further put pressure on it to take action against Rogan. The report said in-part:

At the employee town hall, both Ek and chief content and advertising business officer Dawn Ostroff “repeatedly used the phrase ‘if we were a publisher,’ very strongly implying we are not a publisher, so we don’t have editorial responsibility” for Rogan’s show, said a second Spotify employee who listened to the remarks — and who, like some Spotify employees listening, found the executives’ position “a dubious assertion at best.”

In a chat linked to the town hall livestream, “A large portion of the angry comments were about how Spotify’s exclusive with Rogan means it’s more than just a regular platform,” said one employee.

Ek appeared to take a slightly stronger stance during an earnings call against the left-wing media backlash to Rogan.

“We don’t change our policies based on one creator, nor do we change that based on any media cycle or calls from anyone else,” Ek said. “Our policies have been carefully written with the input from numbers of internal and external experts in this space, and I do believe they’re right for our platform.”

“Usually when we have controversies in the past, those are measured in months, not days,” he added. “But I feel good about where we are in relation to that and top-line trends look healthy still.”

Spotify appears to have removed roughly 70 episodes of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast as videos of its controversial host using racial slurs in past shows spread on social media. At least two videos of Rogan making such comments are currently circulating. This follows a musician-led protest of Spotify over allowing Rogan's podcast to spread COVID-19 misinformation.

This week, Grammy-winning singer India.Arie, who has pulled her catalog from Spotify, shared a compilation video via Instagram that shows Rogan uttering a racial slur on numerous past episodes of his show. She also posted a message saying Rogan was problematic because of "his language around race."

The podcast host, who in 2020 inked a deal reportedly worth more than $100 million to distribute his show exclusively on Spotify, took to Instagram overnight to address the videos and apologize. "I certainly wasn't trying to be racist," Rogan said, "and I certainly would never want to offend someone for entertainment with something as stupid as racism."

Now, they are erasing some shows.

Although I can't find it in print, liberal commentator Glenn Greenwald appeared on Fox News this morning about the Rogan silliness.  I'll paraphrase with my own analysis of what he said, because it basically sums up how aimless and clueless most media has become in the past 25 years.

The legacy media is pissed because their customer reach is less than some clown from Jersey who probably went to a technical school, co-hosted such low-brow programming as "The Man Show" and "Fear Factor".  Not to mention he works on MMA broadcasts, which is far below their cricket and squash games.  (Rogan was also part of one of the great ensemble casts on a TV series "Newsradio")

These suits at CNNPMSNBCABCCBS all went to the right schools from preparatory to undergrad and graduate degrees.  And they worked for lib Dems and donate all their ill-gotten game to the proper people.  This is all jealousy that no one listens to them and some rube is a multi-millionaire and speaks differently than the Democrat party sheet music is directing.

Rumble, an alternative to YouTube, has offered podcast host Joe Rogan $100 million to ditch Spotify for their platform instead.

A letter from Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski explains that Rogan would be offered a creative space without censorship.

“We stand with you, your guests, and your legion of fans in desire for real conversation. So we’d like to offer you 100 million reasons to make the world a better place,” the letter states.

“How about you bring all your shows to Rumble, both old and new, with no censorship, for 100 million bucks over four years?”

I have to admit, the only time I EVER watched a Joe Rogan podcast was when he had Dr. Robert Malone on.

I was fascinated, but that doesn't mean that I'm fascinated with Joe Rogan. Couldn't give a shit less, except to support him in his quest to be heard -- even by someone other than me.

Nope, I ain't no podcast type -- I don't listen to most of them, but occasionally I'll listen to snippets by Dinesh D'Souza, Dave Rubin, and even Glenn Beck. Once in a while, when I'm feeling particularly snarky, I'll listen to Kurt Schlichter.
