But my 13 year old daughter asked me today...

"Why does everyone think hell is a bad place? If satan hates god and god sends you to hell because you make god mad, then why would satan treat you bad? If satan hates god and god sent you to hell because he was mad then satan would be glad you made god mad and treat you good in hell."

I thought it was a good point.

This is what happens when you get your ideas about what Hell is from shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Your kid is a sharp one -- using logic (which has no place in most organized religions). I wish more people would question these things.

Revolting. When I pass I hope God will let me stand at the Pearly Gates in my Blues and an M39 and be given the opportunity to tell people like that, "Sorry. You're in the wrong place. You're entrance is downstairs. Enjoy the view."

Okay, I freely admit to being one of the most unreligious people on this board, but even I can see the fundamental flaw in thinking there.  Since Satan's fall and his resulting hatred were basically products of irrational thinking, why would he behave rationally to piss off God just for your lowly human benefit, kid?  Wouldn't making you eternally suffer be more in keeping with his overweening pride and tendency to excess?  Hmmm?

If the geniuses would actually read the Bible they would find that even though for now Satan has been given freedom to tempt mankind away from fellowship with God his fate is the same as any unrepentent sinner.

Well and if mankind is beloved by God, one would acknowledge that even when sent to Hell, it would pain and break the heart of God to know one of His beloved is suffering eternally. I think they miss the whole part that God doesn't want any of humanity to part ways from Him. They are counting on God hating the person that got sent to Hell.

Also, I do believe Satan was jealous and hateful of humanity to begin with. Party with a human? Not on your life. Satan might use humans, but he has too much disdain for them to ever put them up in comfort of any kind on any sort of permanent basis.
As another twist when one is sent to hell it is like they have been left to the sharks. God has washed his hands, reluctantly, and left you with your enemy whether you know it or not. His protection gone.

That's been my take through years after much consideration as to the whys.

This is not unlike the stories they will post of their children's take on politics. They will find the child's attempt at reasoning to mirror their own simplistic thoughts and decide the child is very advanced, instead of realizing it is they who are lacking.
