School Field Trip to Teacher's Lesbian Wedding Sparks Controversy

First-graders in San Francisco took a field trip to City Hall to celebrate the marriage of their lesbian teacher on Friday, but opponents of same-sex marriage in the state say the field trip was an attempt to “indoctrinate” the students, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The field trip was suggested by a parent at the Creative Arts Charter School, and the school said the trip, where students tossed rose petals on their teacher and her wife as they left City Hall, was academically relevant.

"It really is what we call a teachable moment," said Liz Jaroslow, the school’s interim director, according to the newspaper. She said same-sex marriage had historic significance. "I think I'm well within the parameters."

California will vote on Nov. 4 on Proposition 8 which seeks to ban same-sex marriage in the state, and supporters of the measure say the field trip shows that allowing same-sex marriage will mean it’s taught to school children, the newspaper said.

"It's just utterly unreasonable that a public school field trip would be to a same-sex wedding," said Chip White, press secretary for the Yes on 8 campaign, told the Chronicle. "This is overt indoctrination of children who are too young to have an understanding of its purpose."

Yeah.  No agenda there.   :banghead: :whatever:

How many normal weddings did the children visit?

:wtf3:  When I was in school, field trips involved things like going to a Caterpillar plant, a greeting card printing plant, the state museum, etc..  This is what happens with the liberals in charge of education/indoctrination of children.

One of my favorite field trips in school was the trip out to Ft. Lewis and Greys Army Air Field.  Two months later, Greys sent a Cobra out to display on our football field for Career day.

San Fransissyco is built on a landfill you know. Must have been toxic.

Hence the strong attraction of the Rump Rangers to it.

Okay, I'll agree. That's uncalled for. Keep your personal life to yourself (gay or heterosexual).
Happy Upcoming July 4th. Our country is still one of the best in the world.

unbelievable, even for San Fran
My fellow Americans, there is nothing audacious about hope. Hope is what makes people buy lottery tickets instead of paying the bills. Hope is for the old gals feeding the slots in Atlantic City. It destroys the inner-city kid who quits school because he hopes he'll be a world-famous recording artist.

What's the difference between Sarah Palin and Barack Obama?

One is a well turned-out, good-looking, and let's be honest, pretty sexy piece of eye-candy.

The other kills her own food.

Taking FIRST GRADE kids to a highly controversial type of event like that, and to attempt to call it "academically relevant" is beyond the line.

What is more it is an event that IMO is little more than a public political statement that those kids are far too young to have to deal with or have any meaningfull ability to understand.

And yet even IF a parent was brave enough (imagine the backlash if one did try) to complain, the school would just give them the proverbial finger.

The parents had to give permission, right? Almost every school I know of has permission slips that need to be signed for kids to leave the school grounds on a field trip, or has San Francisco done away with this requirement as well?

A field trip is usually to the zoo or a factory, not a wedding. What has this world come to???????????  :mental: It's like Fred Phelps saying that Mr. Rogers is obligated to make comments about homosexuality in Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, which is a children's show.  :mental: :bird:

you would have to assume that the parents signed a permission slip for this field trip... i expect there to be a backlash if the reason for the field trip was falsified on the slip

Would you like to hear some of the kids questions after this trip.

1 st grader to mother, "Momma. If 2 women get married, does that mean they can only have girl babbies?"

1 st grader to mother, "Momma. Why did you marry a daddy?" Mother to 1 st garder, "Because I loved him very much."  1 st grader to mother, "Yeah, but if you had married a woman you wouldn't need a vaccum cleaner." Mother to 1 st grader, "How do you figure that, dear?" 1 st grader to mother, "Because. Johnny said Miss XXXXXX was getting a carpet muncher instead."
