OK, sorry to bump my own thread but I have to know:
Do readers require a human protagonist in order to feel connected to the story?
My favorite vampire story was some pulp book I picked up when I was a new recruit in the Army. It was about a Justin Beiber-like rock star who was a 2000+year-old vampire. The story flipped back and forth between modern times and his past, sort of like Highlander did although I must have picked up the book at least a year before that movie came out.
From what I remember the book was mostly from the POV of the vampire, turned when he was a relatively young boy, and the only human connection was various characters he met along the way, some historical figures like Henry VIII.
That is one book I wish I could remember the name of. I'm sure I would appreciate it even more now for the history. Or maybe not. If nobody knows this book maybe it wasn't very good and would only appeal to a 19-year-old.
