So glad to hear that it seems everyone is ok here. What a horrendous storm.
Lots of random thoughts.....
In low 40's here, still misty rainy and snowing up in the mountains. Feels and looks colder though. Still under a wind advisory, but seems to be more of a gusty sort of thing rather than continual. Grateful that I live here.
Just woke up a bit ago after watching reports until about 5:30 this morning. What it looked like in the dark almost seems like a blessing compared with the pictures I am seeing now in daylight.
The devastation in NJ and those poor people who have lost everything in those devastating fires in NY. 50+ homes. You know they really have to be wondering just what IS God's plan for them.
Thought too, about Katrina. Remember when there were so many people around the country who made disparaging remarks about those who lived in "low areas" of NOLA - " don't they know living below sea level is stupid?" and all the other nasty comments. Bet there's a lot of people this morning thinking, "how did this happen to us? this isn't supposed to happen to us!"
No doubt Mother Nature is a bitch... and she apparently is either really pissed off at a large chunk of the US or it's just our turn to see the worst of her wrath. Still kind of reminds me of a movie that was on the SyFy channel with Dennis Quaid (?) as a father and his son trapped with some other kids in the library in NY with a horrendous storm and lots of snow instead of water....
Had The Today Show on for about 30 minutes. Hadn't watched it since Ann Curry became a host. They mentioned possiblility of election day being delayed.
I know that's not critical, at this moment for the 7 million people without power right now, but I still would hate to see a postponement. Selfishly...I just want it over with and know that Obama is out.
Obama is getting praise for quick federal response. Just one more thing for the press to compare that he's doing better than Bush did with Katrina. Of course, no one will point out, Obama is doing only better because of all the lessons learned by a whole lot of people with Katrina. Number one being all the local and state governments learning what NOT to do when faced with a castastrophic weather event. Makes it much easier for the president (regardless of who it is) to look much better than Bush did. Not fair but what is? Will his "quick actions" (
) make undecides vote for him?
I think Obama got his October surprise to benefit him. Not only does he get something to make him look effective but it also zaps Libya right off the headlines to the back of the sports section of the paper. Also will give an excuse to not get the jobs reports done... if that will even make a difference at this point.
When will the looting start?
Please God, watch over the people who are suffering hardship from the storm. Comfort the families who have lost loved ones or their homes. Protect all the fire, police and other workers as they go about the process of storm recovery. Guide people to come together to help each other, to remember that America became strong by helping one's neighbor through troubling times. It would be nice if this storm didn't become a political issue, too, but I recognize that probably is too much to hope for....
May God bless us - each and everyone - and let us all be thankful for who we are and what we have instead of resentful of what we don't.
