Then I'll give you ANOTHER Hi-5 as soon as I can! Thanks for caring!  :bawl:

Well now, we cared.

It's just that you're safely in land, instead of being somewhere where you could be washed out to sea, and so we didn't have to care quite as much.  However, we cared about our members of Pennsylvania nonetheless.

Okay, am I reading the weather map correctly this morning, circa 7:45 a.m.?

It looks like it's all over with, and life can return to normal in New England; there's just little sparse sprinkles of green-and-yellow on the weather map over those areas.

However, it looks like West Virginia and substantial parts of Ohio are getting inundated with mountains of snow; lots of solid light blue on the weather map.

Is this correct?

Any known fatalities anywhere?

The last morbid count I read was circa 40, when it was still down in the Caribbean, not over the United States yet.

Don't we have a Baltimore member or two? They got their asses kicked with rain.

Thank God the storm picked up so much speed. It was pushing 30 mph as it came through, up from 15 when it was out to sea. I can only imagine the damage if it were that slow coming over the coast. Damage is pretty bad around the area now.

And of course, the ultimate nightmare scenario for our area would have been it coming up the Chesapeake Bay like it was predicted. It's bad, but it could have been so much worse!

Frank, fatalities are few, happily.

It's still pretty gusty and rainy here, so "normal" won't happen until around 6 p.m. or so. Sustained winds of 20 mph, gusts in the 30s.

Yes. Winds and snow. Gusts up to 50 mph. Not horrible though. Just feels like winter.

Well then, I suppose it would be bad taste to describe the weather in the Sandhills of Nebraska today, so I won't.

My sympathy; it's a little too early for that sort of thing.

BTW, 16 fatalities, total.

Near me, in Drexel Hill, PA, a tree fell on a house, hitting a baby's nursery. The 3-month-old had a couple of scratches, but is otherwise fine.

It certainly is. I have a picture of one of our pitiful jack o lanterns with a dusting on his top. If such things had a brain they'd be very confused:)

I knew you would; had all the confidence in the world you would.

However, I'm hoping that the brain-damaged primitive, the "DainBramaged" primitive, who lives in the same neighborhood as Ballygrl, was washed out to sea.  It would be for the betterment of humanity.

We are having a streak of beautiful here in north Texas.  I don't feel too badly bringing it up since half the east coast is stranded here at DFW.  Those folks deserve a break.

Still windy in the Asheville, NC area and will continue throughout the day.  Some snow north of the city but we didn't get any at the house.  Higher elevations along the NC-TN border is getting heavy snow as they typically do.

Still forecasting snow in my area tonight but I doubt we'll get any.  Winds should die down to maybe 20 mph and less starting Wednesday night.

Winds are supposed to increase to 50+ MPH in Lower Lake Michigan, resulting in 28' seas. We're about 30 miles from that area, and not in any wind warning region - yet.

The Whitefish Point Light station is a good place to visit if you're interested, but you have to WANT to get there. Lots of "...gales of November..." stories.

We were spared by the fact that the storm increased speed from 13 mph to 28 mph just before it hit the Jersey Shore, so the storm's effects lasted half as long for us.  No power outages that I saw in our immediate area.

I mad it through pretty good. I was one of the few fortunate ones in my town who didn't lose power. I feel very lucky. But in the same time I feel sad for all the people who were effected by this. I am still praying for them all...

So glad to hear that it seems everyone is ok here. What a horrendous storm.

Lots of random thoughts.....

In low 40's here, still misty rainy and snowing up in the mountains. Feels and looks colder though. Still under a wind advisory, but seems to be more of a gusty sort of thing rather than continual. Grateful that I live here.

Just woke up a bit ago after watching reports until about 5:30 this morning. What it looked like in the dark almost seems like a blessing compared with the pictures I am seeing now in daylight.

The devastation in NJ and those poor people who have lost everything in those devastating fires in NY. 50+ homes. You know they really have to be wondering just what IS God's plan for them.

Thought too, about Katrina. Remember when there were so many people around the country who made disparaging remarks about those who lived in "low areas" of NOLA - " don't they know living below sea level is stupid?" and all the other nasty comments. Bet there's a lot of people this morning thinking,  "how did this happen to us? this isn't supposed to happen to us!"

No doubt Mother Nature is a bitch... and she apparently is either really pissed off at a large chunk of the US or it's just our turn to see the worst of her wrath. Still kind of reminds me of a movie that was on the SyFy channel with Dennis Quaid (?) as a father and his son trapped with some other kids in the library in NY with a horrendous storm and lots of snow instead of water....

Had The Today Show on for about 30 minutes. Hadn't watched it since Ann Curry became a host. They mentioned possiblility of election day being delayed.  :(  I know that's not critical, at this moment for the 7 million people without power right now, but I still would hate to see a postponement. Selfishly...I just want it over with and know that Obama is out.

Obama is getting praise for quick federal response. Just one more thing for the press to compare that he's doing better than Bush did with Katrina. Of course, no one will point out, Obama is doing only better because of all the lessons learned by a whole lot of people with Katrina. Number one being all the local and state governments learning what NOT to do when faced with a castastrophic weather event. Makes it much easier for the president (regardless of who it is) to look much better than Bush did. Not fair but what is? Will his "quick actions" (  ::)  ) make undecides vote for him?

I think Obama got his October surprise to benefit him. Not only does he get something to make him look effective but it also zaps Libya right off the headlines to the back of the sports section of the paper. Also will give an excuse to not get the jobs reports done... if that will even make a difference at this point.

When will the looting start?

Please God, watch over the people who are suffering hardship from the storm. Comfort the families who have lost loved ones or their homes. Protect all the fire, police and other workers as they go about the process of storm recovery. Guide people to come together to help each other, to remember that America became strong by helping one's neighbor through troubling times. It would be nice if this storm didn't become a political issue, too, but I recognize that probably is too much to hope for....

May God bless us - each and everyone - and let us all be thankful for who we are and what we have instead of resentful of what we don't.
