Is there a tool and if not, why not invent one that will allow you to 'roll' tape around the inside of a window frame, covering the glass that you don't want to get paint on?
I have a million windows in my home and I am about to paint the 'inside' window frames.
I don't want to tape each pane of glass by hand and "I HOPE" that there is a tool (kind of like a package tape dispenser or even similar to a miniature drywall taping tool ) that will not only make the job faster to do but also less tedious!?
I only need to run the tape, an inch around the inside of the frame, covering the glass.
Forgive my bad arrow drawings in the following picture, (HOW do you make straight lines with paint or irfanview? :panic:)
The arrows point to the frame area that I am referring to and the glass that I want to cover.
I hope that I have been fairly clear on my question?
I don't know any other way to ask it. :mad:

I don't know of any tool other than either the 3M blue tape stuff, or going real slow and easy with a quality brush sans tape.

I've heard of modelers using rubber cement as a paint mask for delicate areas. Once it's dried, it peels off and can be scraped clean with a razor. Maybe Airwolf has experience with it... I've never tried that particular method. Other than that, I would look for a tape dispenser at the hardware store.

I think you might end up having to tape the windows.

Use Vaseline or any petroleum based product , just apply it around the border of the window pane.

Are you using an acrylic latex, or latex based paint?
If so, be very careful about applying tape as your edge. Latex paint dries fast, but does not reach full 'cure' (depending on temperature) until many days after you've painted it. Full adhesion is reached only when the paint has cured, not when it has dried. If you try to pull a painter's tape edge on latex, you can very easily tear the paint. Don't ask me how I know this.
If you don't think you have a steady enough hand to apply the paint with a brush, and feel you must use the tape, consider peeling the tape away immediately after you've painted an area.
The other option is to run as neat of an edge as you can, let it dry for about two weeks, and then clean your glass edges up with a razor blade.
I've got about 200 individual pieces of glass left to remove, reglaze, so I feel your pain.

Use the trim guide and have a rag to wipe it off frequently. Wait until the paint has dried thoroughly then scrape any drops from the glass with a razor blade.

The paint is washable with water so I don't think that it is latex based?
Someone gave me a link to this tool from Scotch and I wonder if this might be what I am looking for?
They talk about woodwork but why wouldn't it work for what I need?

Acrylic and/or latex is water resistant after it has cured. If it is water cleanup, it's acrylic/latex based.
What sort of window are you painting? Wooden? Vinyl? Do you have a nice angled/tapered paint brush? You might want to give it a shot freehand, without any tape, and see what sort of edge you can get without the tape. You might surprise yourself.

There is an extremely small (1/8 inch) edge that runs along the edge of the glass that I wont be able to paint without hitting the glass.
The windows are double hung wooden framed.

That tool is around $60.00 but when I went and purchased the painters tape dispenser at Home Depo today, they had a similar one for $18.00.
