Who here are musicians?
« on: January 31, 2008, 04:41:02 PM »
Former high school band geek.  I'm a drummer wannabe, all of my life.  Recently, the bass guitar has piqued my interest and was thinking about buying a beginner's kit.

What about you?

Trumpet from childhood through College. As an adult, I taught myself flute (and recorder and other derivatives).

I like to play the piano...don't have one anymore, but it's something I enjoy.

I finally bought a halfway decent guitar 11 years ago. I really need to pick it up. Oh, also, learn to play it.  :thatsright: :(
"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

I play guitar (30 years) and bass (8 years). I also collect vintage guitars.

I played the clarenet in 7th grade but one of the keys broke and my parents couldn't afford to fix it. I ended up sitting in the back of the band room reading "Rolling Stone" and "Spin".

I played the cello from 5th grade until I graduated high school.  I was even in the Ft Worth Youth Orchestra when I was in 9th grade.

My cello's at my mom's house, because during some rough financial times I was seriously considering selling it (worth around $10,000).  If I have kids, they'll learn an instrument. :)

I can't play guitar anymore because of my numb left hand.  I wasn't very good at it anyway.

I took piano and learned the basics to get along.  I'm am obviously not a natural.

I sang professionally (rock; pop) as a side job.  I have band experience.

I am too old to deal with it anymore.   I can still sing a clear line, but a whole song - forget it.

I am one of those Karaoke nuts.  I don't get to do it as often as I like, but I do try to get out once a month if possible.

I'll dig through my hard drive, see if I have anything showing "my skills" and upload 'em here maybe.

I can sing them piecemeal, innercut the verses, dub the second chorus, and bridge the weak spots.

I've been playing guitar since high school, 30 years now. I had a few electric guitars but I play only acoustic now. Mostly classic rock and old blues stuff with a little alternative thrown in.

I sang professionally (rock; pop) as a side job.  I have band experience.

Oh man I had no idea that was an album cover! How stupid is that? Oh the shame!
I know about Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship but I've never seen that cover before. Jeez, you must have done every drug known to man, and a few unknown!

Well, my screen name says it all: Eupher.

I played the euphonium, trombone, and really bad trumpet throughout my Army career (except the first enlistment), eventually retiring as a player, brass group leader, platoon sergeant, sometimes conductor, and all-round military band geek. I retired 13 years ago.

After retirement, I continued to play and still do today. Got into British-style brass bands with a vengeance having been principal euphonium in two brass bands, but I've played in all manner of symphonic wind bands, small brass ensembles, symphonic orchestras (on tenor and bass trombone), big bands, aka "swing", and even played in reading sessions with a gaggle of violas and cellos.

Hey, with the viola and cello thing, it's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it.  :-)

Mrs. Eupher is an accomplished violist, violinist, and pianist and she usually accompanies me in church. I can't reciprocate because I don't play piano (yet). I'm saving that for my second retirement.

For the uninitiated, may I solemnly introduce what is known throughout the world as The Low Brass Creed:

No sleeping, but she did sit on my lap once (no kidding).  She was very skinny at the time and had a very boney butt.

Grace is 15 years older than me, btw.

Having been a trumpet player, I know understand the clinking, clanking and hrumphing I always heard from 2 rows back.
