Interested in actual back and forth on a few topics we are in disagreement.

 We shall see.

As an introduction, it barely beats 'send bobs and vagene'.

Who are you, and what are these 'topics' you want to disagree on?

I felt it only polite to post a brief, and innocuous hello before barging in and acting as if I belong here.

"Want to disagree on",  I don't WANT to disagree on anything specifically, but when I do, it would be entertaining and educational to actually discuss those differences.

I am no more interested in a silly argument merely to disagree than I am in an homogenized echo chamber, same noise different timbre.  I can troll and be snappish at Discussionist, or I can mindlessly parrot the outrage de jour at the DUmp.
At the moment I find the latest in bumpersticker logic, or mindless tribalism a bit played out.

For the record the OP is from DI and is mostly right leaning former democrat.

I think I have that kind of summed up.

Pryor should have been in Blazing Saddles.

What say you to that, eek?

Yep....  But IIRC he was a script writer on the movie and well respected by B S creator Mel Brooks.

I disagree, Clevon Little's understated Bart played far better than Pryors coke addled antics. He was great with Wilder in later, more over the top roles. Though I prefer Wilder as a more low key comic genius. The Producers is still my favorite Brooks AND Wilder film.

I would have loved to see him instead of Hines in History of the World Part 1.

Argue all you want between the virtues/tribulations of Little/Pryor, but the absolute breaking point with this film was the scene linked below.

This was 1974. We already had "All in the Family" and all of that socio-political crap tossed out there by Norman Lear (God, give me a break), but this dose of reality was the unequivocal Winner of the Decade.

A high water mark in 20th century film making right there folks.
Still, when it made it to TV the early showings on network TV cut the sound of the expelled gas or skipped the scene all together.  Speaking of bodily functions Leer couldn't show a bathroom toilet but he fought to add the sound effect of Archie flushing it!

I am 100% sure we disagree on little we can discuss.

You are either:

* wrong

But by all means, continue

Pryor was a comic GENIUS and sadly, pursued and eventually killed by the demons that make the few boomers who were in that rarefied cadre (Pryor, Williams, Belushi, Carlin and maybe 2 or 3 others).  Some geniuses of that era are still with us but the insane level of humor was so frequently accompanied by literal insanity.

We will never know about Pryor vs. Little  We SAW Little and can no longer see anyone else because he did such a great (iconic?) job?  Kurt Russell who has a similar screen presence as Harrison Ford tried out for Han Solo but we can't picture anyone else but Ford.  A closer swap out would be Dick Van Dyke instead of Robert Preston as Professor Harold Hill in "The Music Man" - I can see Van Dyke but the near-end scene with Billy Mumy would have not been nearly as good (for example).

Had Pryor not succumbed to his addiction who knows?  But Cleavon Little will be Bart forever for everyone.

Carlin was NOT a Boomer. Made a point out of trashing all Boomers. He was born in 1937.

I always thought of him as a boomer.  He certainly can be lumped in with that genre.  My point was the style of comedy rather than date of birth.

Well, jump in... head-first.
Don't insult people is really the primary rule here...  If I've survived here, pretty much anyone can, and I most certainly don't agree with every single person here on policy or politics. The difference being, the gap isn't unbridgeable here, and even when someone disagrees with you, they will respect you in kind. There are some seriously smart people posting here and you'll never know who they are because there's no class or identity warfare going on... we don't post for "recs" or try to out-do one another... and that's my favorite part about the folks here.
For the record, discussing politics is kind of secondary as we mainly come here to make fun of a certain species of mentally deficient animals (DU posters to be specific). They really are fascinating to observe.
