NASHVILLE (June 27, 2008) - Nissan today announced that deliveries of the all-new 2009 Nissan GT-R are scheduled to begin on Monday, July 7, 2008. More than 1,700 of the exotic 480-horsepower GT-R supercars, or approximately 70 percent of the first year allocation for the United States market, have already been spoken for since the announcement of a pre-sale ordering program last January.

The 2009 Nissan GT-R has a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP)* of $69,850 for the GT-R and $71,900 for the GT-R Premium model. Destination & Handling (D&H) is $1,000. The GT-R is available only through officially certified Nissan dealers that have met a number of strict sales, service and facilities commitments, including dedicating a master technician to GT-R service. A searchable listing of the 671 GT-R Certified Nissan dealers is available to consumers on nissanusa.com.

Has anyone matched this head-to-head with the Corvette?

I haven't seen a comparison with a base model Corvette, but the ZR1 was almost three minutes faster than the GT-R at Nurburgring.

I meant the ZR1 -- it has been consistently matching or outperforming cars equal up to twice the MSRP.  And I am NOT a Chevy guy by any means, but they did good with that one.

I want to see an Ariel Atom (or an Atom 500) at Nurburgring.

A description of the Nurburgring from Top Gear

Quote
The car's scary enough, but the track is truly terrifying. You probably know that the Nürburgring's Nordschleife (the north loop) is the world's longest and most challenging race circuit, lurking in the Eiffel mountains in northwest Germany. It is 13 miles long, has 75 corners - many of them blind and off-camber, high speed and difficult, with no run-off - and is open to the public on many days throughout the summer.

It's classed as a 'toll road' where you can do any speed you like for 16 euros a lap and where quite a few people are seriously injured every year. Especially bikers, who are let on the track at the same time as the cars. And the buses, vans and trucks...

With dealer mark up, I doubt if you could buy one for less than a 100 grand but even at that price it is a great bargain. Reliability and the cost of repairs will probably be better than anything in its class.

I think I will stick with my 2003 350Z sports car; it has 287hp, it's paid for and I get in enough trouble with it.

When I was at Ford, one of the guys in the IT dept blew the motor on his 350Z.  He had it replaced with a 500hp turbo'd monster.

Since mine it is out of warranty, I have though about getting Stillen to put a supercharger on it. I got burned on souping up my 94 MR2 Turbo and blew up the motor in it. Don't know if I want to deal with the aggravation, money and time to make another repeat performance. I have gone 150mph in my present car. Not too many places to use 500 horses and go 190 other than the drag strip which does not interest me.
