Well here it is, my official college admission decisions thread

I remember beginning to think about which schools I was going to apply to about two year ago. At the time I told myself and everyone that I would apply to no more than 7, and preferably about 5. As the time to apply crept closer and closer the neurotic worrying and stress that many students suffer began to sink in and my list of schools grew. I ended up applying to 10 schools. Today I heard from another school, completing the admission process for me. I'm absolutely thrilled and honored with the results of my late night essay writing, and I'm certain that my Mom is glad that the process is over and I can now stop with the constant rushing to check the mail and refreshing my email inbox. ;)

Below is a list of the schools I applied to and the admission decisions I received. Yes, I'm saving the announcement of the school I'll be attending until the very end of this post. It's more fun that way! :P

NYU - Accepted
UCLA - Accepted
Berkeley - Accepted
Harvard - Wait-listed
UNC Wilmington - Accepted
Pratt Institute - Accepted
Boston University - Accepted
Ithaca College - Accepted
Alabama - Accepted
UT Austin - Rejected (I now have an excellent reason to pull against UT's football team ;) )

And now for the best part. I'm absolutely thrilled and honored to announce that I'll be attending what has long my dream school and top choice, NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where I will be majoring in film & television. I have also been admitted as a Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholar. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholars major in one of the eight undergraduate divisions at NYU. In addition, they participate in a rich combination of seminars, domestic and international travel colloquia, research, educational and cultural activities, and community service. Scholarships and grants make the school affordable for me, and the film program is the best out there. After visiting the campus, and talking with current students and faculty I am certain the NYU is the place for me. I loved the campus, loved the students, loved the faculty, loved everything about it! I felt at home at NYU and I'm happy and excited to have finally found a place that I know will be perfect for me! I look forward to the fall. I can't wait to attend NYU and continue growing as a filmmaker and as a person.

New York DU'ers, can't wait to be your neighbor!

I'm not completely sure I believe her.  If she got into UCLA & Cal-Berkeley, how did she not get into Texas?  I'm betting she got into NYU and the smaller schools, was rejected by the rest.

Yah, that's like me getting accepted to Georgia Tech as an out-of-state but not UNM as in-state. (got into both, btw)

And oh, NYU has about a 40 percent acceptance rate, with an average accepted applicant GPA of 3.81 and SAT I average composite score of 2139 (of a possible 2400).

UT Austin, OTOH, has a 51 percent acceptance rate, average GPA of 3.83 and SAT I of 2185.

Berkeley: 24 percent, GPA 3.90, SAT I 2229.

(Now for GT: 63 percent, 3.86 GPA, 2175 SAT I.)

Meh.  Not likely.

Even as whack and left as Austin is .... they don't allow Ava's kind in.  She can't cross the border.

I'm sure she is full of sh*t, but nonetheless, I wish her well.  The child needs an education of a different sort.

I've read some of her stuff.  Little Ava isn't all that bright.  I guess that's why she's a liberal-in-training.

Yes it is. You want some good hard-line conservatism, head up to College Station.

From her description of the curriculum, it sounds more like a liberal wet dream than an education.  Well, at least it will cost her and her mother a shitload of money for nothing of value.

UNC Wilmington????  That's a surfer school.  She should have said Chapel Hill, or Duke, to up her bouncy score.

Gaaaah, why did she have to pick New York?  Part of this little film & TV adventure is going to be on my dime, I'm sure of it.  BSS & Carl's, too.

So do I.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. I figured she'd be more at home in a place like the Albany campus of SUNY.*

Something about the S&M club set up on university funds, right?  (It happened a couple of years ago.  To my knowledge, it's still running and drawing university "student activity fees.")

And, also, it's the capital of The People's Republik of Noo Yawk.  I work a half a mile from the SUNY Dormitory Authority.  Downtown Albany has all that stuff close by.

No access to 95! - I am due north of your state, and all I need is to have to see Ava's mug protesting the military up here.
