Anyone have a Sleep Number bed? If so, any criticisms? Are they worth it?

We had one up until about a year or so ago. I wouldn't never own another one. After a few months of use, they develop a significant dip between the air pillows. From what I've read and heard, this is a frequent complaint of people that own them.

What type foundation did you have? Reason I ask is I had a queen bed which had a queen size split box (here in New England it is near impossible to get a queen size box spring up to a second floor bedroom in older capes so they make a split box). With the split box and no center leg support the mattress developed a sag in the middle. With the addition of four by four legs under in the middle under the frame cross rails the problem went away.

No input on the Sleep Number but I will put in a strong recomendation for the Tempurpedic. Too expensive but, it kept me out of back surgery & held up very well for over six years. I think Serta has a knock off which might be cheaper.

We bought the foundation that comes with the Sleep number bed.

My good friend bought a tempurpedic and returned it within 90 days. She said it already had dips in it before it even hit 90 days. I dont know if being overweight would have an effect on it or not but she is itty bitty and her husband is very fit so it didn't have anything to do with weight in their case.

We bought a king size mattress and box spring from the Original Mattress Factory about a year ago. So far we are pleased with it.

I'm a big guy, and I detest sleep number beds. I need a firm bed and it doesn't even come close. I know people that have them that love them. Like any other bed, lay in one and try it out.

I've heard people rave about "The Heavenly Bed". It's made by Simmons and the Westin Hotels have them in their rooms. Every person I know that's slept in one loved it.

What BEG said about Tempurpedic, my wife experienced the same issue with hers and has to rotate the mattress every now and then. She really liked the Comfortpedic we got her before that one but it got uncomfortable to sleep in as fast as the Tempurpedic.

Best night's sleep I've ever gotten was on a (real) Japanese futon.

We have a serta with the memory foam topper. Other than having to buy "deep pocket" sheets, LOVE it! Also, 10 year warranty that it won't sag. Had it about 4 years now and so far so good.

Bought a new Serta firm mattress and box spring about a year ago from Sears. I love it. Wish I had done it years ago. Getting used to the difference in height was the only adjustment I had to make. My old mattress was a hand-me-down and had been flipped and rotated to within an inch of its life. With my new mattress, I felt like I needed a step stool to climb on it. It took some getting used to but wouldn't trade it now.

I forgot to mention the last new mattress I bought was this one (Dawn):

They were about half what the Tempur-Pedics were.

And yes, it is rather like a dead blow hammer (if you know what I mean).

Ours is about 12 years old, and it's just too high for these tired, old, arthritic bones and back. My feet don't even touch the floor when I sit on it.

Good choice.

My parents had a sleep number that they gave to my sister years ago that is still working well for them.

They had a motorhome with a sleep number bed and had about three in a row that leaked air. My dad would get pissed off when he would wake up sleeping on the bed frame. The last one finally lasted until we sold the RV.

They would had to call, have one dropped shipped and return the old one. It was a pain in the back.
