It is time to create a mens forum / group.

The process for requesting a group is defined here.

With other interest areas, this process appears to work without a great deal of friction. In the recent past moderators have been instructed to summarily lock threads requesting a mens forum or group, but the "ten supporters" criteria has been met many times, which stands to reason because, like women's issues, mens issues are of interest to most DU'ers.

I would suggest; "Issues of interest to men" as a mission statement. It is both condescending and predjudicial to do more than point out that those discussions, like all discussions here, will be strictly compliant with the rules, and consistent with the mission of DU.

One frequent question that comes up in this context is "What will you talk about?" The answer is I don't know and frankly wouldn't presume to guess. Health? Work? Hobbies? The economy? Food/drink? Kids? Marriage? Society? The only fair and morally consistent delimiter is that it will be strictly compliant with the rules.

If we are to be true to DU's mission, allowing a mens forum should absolutely NOT be "too controversial".

But I think, ultimately, the proof will be in the pudding. It is not fair to summarily dismiss the idea without giving it a chance. So yes, we'll do it.

I know you have waited a long time for this. Would you mind if we waited until after the election?

I don't see why this would even be controversial.  If you guys wanted a mens group, I doubt any of the ladies would object, though we would probably crash it like you guys crash the Spa  :-)
