Why do people in uniforms turn my stomach?
I have this problem with people in military uniforms. I'm not sure what causes it. And no, it is not specific to american military personell, in fact I have not been exposed to any of those for a while, since I live in Europe. It applies to uniformed people from anywhere. I just feel a weird kind of jolt in my stomach, like I might be sick, when I walk past one. It sort of applies to military uniforms of all countries, but it seems to be worse if the respective country is involved in some sort of war. Anyone have similar feelings? Its really weird, I can't really explain it?

On a side note: It doesn't seem to be connected with guns. I grew up in the south of USA and we had guns, rifles etc. at my house. I have fired them myself. A person holding a rifle doesn't bother me. Just uniforms.

68. Generally, When I Pass By Someone In Uniform, I Feel An Immediate Sense Of Respect.
I know the courage, convictions and unselfishness it takes to be a soldier. I can't help but respect the heck out of them.

Then there's this exchange:

7. I don't know where you got your attitude towards those in the
military, but they are hardly "mindless automatons who are trained to follow orders and kill without questioning authority". I suggest that you educate yourself before you start making such broad brush statements.

15. Smedley Butler said the same thing, and in no uncertain terms
And, as you may know, he was awarded the Medal of Honor twice plus the Brevet Medal as he rose to become the most decorated and highest-ranking Marine of his time. He missed being appointed Commandant of the Corps only because of his politics.

The DUmmy OP should just commit suicide since he clearly doesn't want the protection of people in uniform.

I was just reading this thread.  :-)

I read that entire thing this morning and thought about bringing it over, but it was such an odd and long thread I decided to pass.  It's worthy for the original post, if anything.

I was reading this thread yesterday, ProudDad is one man I would LOVE to meet in a nice dark alley and show him just what I was trained to do as a US Marine.

There are a few other posters in that thread that just made me shake my head in amazement that some people are like that.

On a serious note, the OP doesn't seem to recognize his own prejudicial tendencies towards military folks. If the OP had been describing this reaction to a street thug with a tanned hue, he would have been disgusted with himself and never have even posted that thread. However, he didn't seem to have any hesitation admitting his prejudicial feelings towards someone in uniform, expecting approval from his peers. I'm glad to see he was not validated overall.

On ACUs? It's, more than likely, Hunter Army Airfield, the home of the 1st Bat, 75th Ranger Reg't that she's talking about. Stewart is a little ways from Savannah.

I am out of Stewart, so I have a good clue who it could be, but it is more than likely people who don't do shit from either base. So, she should be on the lookout for CIB's.

And they get their CAB and their promotion points...

You know I said it as a joke, but if you want to get all mad about it, this isn't the place and I'm not the person.

And if this was a military board I may have taken it as a joke once I knew you better...but since it was made in front of primarily civilians I didn't find it so humorous. So on at least one point you are correct..this isn't the place.

As to whether you're the person or not shouldn't make any difference.

Not much I can add to this thread that hasn't be said already.

BEG nailed it. They're very selective about whom they support in uniform. For this country? Hate. Against this country? I.e., Castro and the Venezuelan Chipmunk? Adoration.

Dang girl...wish I'd known you were there.  I'd have found a way to have bought you a beer when I was there back in November.

Went to my old stomping ground (Bayou Blues Cafe)...place hadn't changed in 10 years.
