Two New York City police officers are shot and killed in a brazen ambush in Brooklyn

Two uniformed New York police officers were shot and killed by a suspect in a brazen ambush while they sat in their patrol car Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Both officers were shot in the head and rushed to Brooklyn’s Woodhull Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead, according to news reports.

Several hours before the shooting, a man believed to be the gunman wrote, “I’m putting wings on pigs today” on his Instagram page, the Post reported. The images showed a silver handgun with a wooden handle and a pair of camouflage pants and blue tennis shoes that appear to match those worn by the suspect as he was circulated by the media that show him being transported to the hospital. The photos use hashtags for Michael Brown and Eric Garner and appear to indicate that the shootings were an act of revenge.

“They Take 1 Of Ours … Let’s Take 2 of Theirs,” the post said, before adding, “This May Be My Final Post.”

Two NYPD cops were executed Saturday after a gang member from Baltimore drove to the city to kill police officers after wounding his girlfriend, sources told the Daily News.

The shooter, identified as Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, boasted about wanting to kill cops in the hours before he ambushed the officers outside the Tompkins Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant about 3 p.m. Saturday.

Brinsley is believed to be a member of a Baltimore gang, Black Gorilla Family, sources said. The gang has vowed retribution for the deaths of Garner and Brown.

In November, while he was apparently in Atlanta, Brinsley posted that he had got into a fight with a panhandler. He notes that after he stopped the fight he found out the panhandler was a “Muslim too” and the pair, according to his own account, went to a bar for a drink:

This as New York City's police commissioner said the gunman who ambushed and killed two police officers had made online posts that were 'very anti-police.'

Police Commissioner William Bratton choked up at a news conference at the Woodhull medical Center on Saturday afternoon as he talked about the fatal shootings of two officers in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness who spoke to The Daily Beast said that 'a lot of people were clapping and laughing' following the murder of the two police officers.

'Some were saying, "They deserved it," and another was shouting at the cops, "Serves them right because you mistreat people!”'said the man, identified as Carlos.

After two New York police officers were fatally shot at point-blank range while sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn, targeted by a gunman apparently solely because they were officers, Mayor Bill de Blasio on Sunday faced the challenge of reassuring a city on edge while addressing a deepening rift with the Police Department.

Mr. de Blasio, who attended a Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday morning, is encountering perhaps the gravest challenge of his year-old administration.

In a stunning show of disapproval and disrespect, police officers turned their backs to him on Saturday night when the mayor went to the hospital to talk about the two officers who were killed.

This caught my attention.

Police officers in Atlanta were familiar with Mr. Brinsley. On nine occasions in less than six years, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office records show, Mr. Brinsley was booked into jail. In that stretch, he was arrested by officers from four agencies on charges that included disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, and theft by shoplifting. He was also arrested on weapons charges.

In at least one case, according to court records, Mr. Brinsley was convicted of a felony shoplifting charge.

On Saturday, Mr. Brinsley began his day with bloodshed, according to the police. Before he left for New York, he shot a former girlfriend in Maryland; she survived. He took her phone and offered updates on his plans for the rest of the day.

He is a career criminal.

The mother of the woman he was suspected of shooting alerted the police of the messages around 1:30 p.m.

The messages were cryptic, suggesting officers would die but not specifying exactly where, and investigators in Maryland scrambled to determine where they had been posted from.

Soon after, they located the posts — and a cellphone carried by Mr. Brinsley — in southern Brooklyn.

At 2:10 p.m., the Baltimore County authorities called the 70th Police Precinct in Brooklyn, where the cellphone had been last located, and told them of the threatening messages. They also faxed a wanted poster to the precinct naming Mr. Brinsley, according to the authorities in Baltimore County.
