A Democratic congressional candidate in Arkansas dropped out of his race this week after he was caught lying about his military record. Ken Aden claimed that he was in the Special Forces, when in reality he failed out of Special Forces training three times and was honorably discharged in 2010. While Aden’s actions may be dishonorable, the Supreme Court has ruled that lying about military service is not illegal.

Thats only half true, the supreme court ruled that lying about military service with nothing to gain was legal but clearly Aden was trying to gain something by his lying.

However, the law they struck down did not distinguish between the two things. Currently , there is no law against lying about military service, awards or medals, period.  Congress will have to pass another law for that.

Current state statutes apply.  For example, passing your self off as a missionary for starving pygmies to collect money & spending it in Vegas would be a violation of fraud statutes. Walking into the VFW with a chest full of medals would be technically legal but, you might get your ass handed to you.

Thats true but theres already another law in congress. This d-bag got caught in the 2 month time span where he wouldnt have been in trouble with the law. He probably leaked the info himself for that reason.

Why did he do it? certainly he knew he was going to be found out. If you are running for office the media investigates every bit of your life and background. If there is something out there they will find it, and if they can't find anything they will make shit up. What a fool this guy is.
