DUmmies are always talking about this sort of thing.
A family of four can't live on minimum wage. American workers don't get paid vacation or medical leave. American workers don't get health insurance. Makes me want to puke.
No, a family of four can't live on minimum wage. Minimum wage jobs are for teens living at home to get work experience. Part time employees don't get paid vacation or medical leave or health insurance for the same reason. In the grownup world, a part time job is for people who want to supplement their household income.
Sometimes, an adult may have to take a job with less than desirable pay and benefits. This may be to tide them over until something better comes along or because they have made some poor life choices and are starting over. Either way, here's what grownups do: Instead of whining, saying "this job doesn't pay enough for me to do that," or claiming that the dining room is overrun with earwigs, they work. Hard. They work harder than what the pay is. They work every hour offered them.
Do that and I guarantee that you won't be part time, making minimum wage very long. Possibly not even as long as the customary 90 day probationary period. I guarantee it. I've managed retail stores for many many years. Hard, dedicated workers are a tall glass of ice water in the middle of the desert.
