Remember when Poopy-pants Pam was considering "placing an order" with her local food bank?  She was asking the fellow DUmmies what sorts of things they had.  Hers is a two-income no-kids family.  She just thought it would be neat or something.  She got raked over the coals.  What a dumbass.

The St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Food Bank branch is in SE Phoenix, not far from the Scottsdale border. It's a bit north of the flight path for Sky Harbor and near an Arizona National Guard facility. Not sure how many Phoenicians are DU members, and the Phoenix metro area is very spread out, but the thread is in the Arizona forum (not a forum that would be frequented by all members).
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"?      In my view, this is how welfare should be distributed: locally and in-kind, rather than in cash. Parenthetically, I don't know why this information would be useful on a Democratic message board, as they assure us that this is the strongest economy in history and we are nowhere close to a recession. Maybe people needing food are Nancy Pelosi's artists and poets, whom she encouraged to quit working a few years ago.

As for Pam, who has a surplus of chromosomes but not intelligence, I don't think she can place an order for Depends. I think she has to go buy those herself.

I am curious now...  how does a "food bank" actually work?
Do you go in and shop like a grocery store?  My only experience with it is dropping stuff off at the churches and they take it to wherever it's supposed to go.
The one thing I am familiar with is when I see them advertise handing out pre-packed boxes or bags of stuff and you don't get to choose what's in it. I dunno if that's just a covid-era thing, or if thats how they always do it.

I've said this for years.  If it was all done locally then there would be a lot less of it because the locals know who are scamming the system and those who truly need a hand UP.  Those who need the hand up are grateful and usually don't need it for long.  Those who need the hand out are a completely different breed of folks.

I saw a documentary many, many years ago and they interviewed a family that was 3rd generation welfare.  It made me ill to watch it.

It depends. Some pre-pack boxes or bags of staples, and others provide some choices. It depends on what they have at the moment, how fresh it is, and so on. A LOT of good people need, deserve, and use food banks. People who use it for fun or because they'd rather spend cash on weed and DU star memberships can suck eggs.

And Privately! I.E. no gooberment. Local non-government people can target real needs and can screen out scamsters and leeches more easily.

I don't know about adult incontinence supplies, but some food banks and crisis pregnancy centers (you know, the groups Pro-Abortion people want to erase) do stock and distribute disposable diapers for babies.

Back around the turn of the century, :-) , one of my son's Scouting friends had an Eagle Project in which they replaced their church's (then, our church) food bank's knocked-together 2x4 and plywood shelves with used industrial quality shelving. It was a Saturday of unload shelves, dismantle the old, set up the new, and organize the stock onto the "new" shelves. Part of an Eagle Project is the Scout whose project it is plans out the whole process, arranges for donation of materials and specialized labor (AR), gets volunteers (from the troop, parents, and friends), and manages the implementation. AFAIK, the church food bank still uses those shelves.

In addition to this they should bring back the monopoly money food stamps. Too easy using an EBT credit card.

I remember the days when people would actually be ashamed to use these while in line at the grocery store. Big motivation to try and get off the food stamps asap.

In Massachusetts the EBT card can be used at the gas pumps, casinos and if you can believe it for bail money.

Seriously?  How in the hell do people get stuff like this to pass?  I need to meet them and hire them as sales people to help me sell a bridge, or ice in Alaska, or sand in the Middle East.

People don't even need to live in the state to take advantage of Massachusetts welfare.

"Bay State EBT card carriers spent nearly $50 million in welfare cash out of the state last year — including destinations as far away as the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, officials said yesterday."

https://www.bostonherald.com/2014/06/14/mass-ebt-cardholders-spent-50m-out-of-state/

"We found that since October of last year, DTA has shut down the EBT accounts of 3,457 people who the agency determined were actually living out-of-state and collecting Massachusetts benefits. 871 of those cases were in Florida. Before that, the state closed 0 cases of people with long-term out-of-state spending."

Definitely and there needs to be a time limit as well, so there are not multi generational families using it.

We would be lucky if Mass doesn't apologize and pay them restitution.  No Photo on these EBT cards either so welfare people usually have multiples and sell some them.

When covid was in full swing, our local schools did free lunches for anyone willing to pick them up. I had my concerns with it, but my wife was totally on board under the consideration that we pay our taxes and aren't much of a burden since we homeschool. It was a huge pain in the butt to wait in line for 5 meals when I was home to do it.

Those wicked Christians imposing their morality on the world around them again...

IKR? Here in Silicon Valley, most and the largest of food banks - except for Second Harvest - are part of Christian ministries or ministries of churches. Many of those partner with Second Harvest, and I would not be surprised to learn that many at Second Harvest are Christians. And just to be clear for the sake of less than well informed DU-onlurkers, many of those ministries and churches, contrary to Progs' commonplace stereotype, are Evangelical ("Fundamentalist"), along with Catholics and "mainline Protestants" (weird random thought ... Missouri and Wisconsin Synod Lutherans are very theologically conservative, i.e. Evangelicals, but have been around for a century and a half, i.e. "mainline" ... pigeon holes have exceptions).

These are examples of why DU-grade Progs try to shut down such ministries, they screw up the stereotype DU-grade Progs need to believe.
