Title: My Physical Status
Post by: Thor on November 11, 2009, 04:26:40 PM
Monday was the neurologist's consult. She looked at my MRIs and I did pretty well in reading them. She was pretty concerned about my neck (Cervical spine) She said that an auto accident, a wrong fall or the likes could either disable me for the rest of my life, leaving me a quadriplegic or worse. She wanted me to see a neurosurgeon ASAP. It appears that I'm due for another hospital stay. The soonest appointment I could get with a neurosurgeon was on Dec 10th. Apparently very few that accept Tricare. I COULD go to a medicare DR, but I dunno. I have a call into her about recommendations, but no return call to date. So, in the interim, I have to be very careful about where I go and what I do.

Please be careful .....

Can you go to one of the military hospitals around there? There seem to be some pretty good ones.

Make sure you stay off the trapeze too....
made you grin... :-*

I'm more worried about him playing on the trampoline.

I have to be very careful about where I go and what I do.

Do that, please.

Be very careful.

We're counting on you.

like watch porn.

That can lead to repetitive stress injuries to the hand and wrist.

I got a calm feeling reading this.  That means you will be fine.  I have a special line to Heaven about things like this.

I'm going to attempt at posting my MRIs here. I don't know if I'll be successful.

Man, I know this is serious but .... I REALLY think you should get a new Neurologist.  I could have made that statement and I'm a real estate broker!

Good luck to you and you are in my prayers.

Let's try this:

I will note that the thoracic and lumbar aren't nearly as bad as my neck. There should be a nice white area surrounding the spinal cord.

I'm happy with my neurologist. She seems to know her stuff and is one of the better ones around the Dallas area. It's the orthopaedic or neuro (Spine) surgeon that I'm more concerned about and the fact of finding a good one.

WOW those MRI's look nasty. Is the damage from an accident or a medical/degenerative condition?
I hope it turns out ok!

I wish I knew. I think it's a combination of many things, especially my neck. I've been reflecting on what caused my neck to be so bad. The first incident was I was going into the cockpit of an H-46 and hit my head really hard on a bulkhead that dropped down. It almost knocked me out. Then there was a bicycle accident that I flipped my bike, head over heels. Also, I played competitive Judo for several years. Then, a few bar fights, one, in particular, I was hit over the head with an ebonite baton. (I didn't start the fight, just defending myself.) I did go to medical and X-rays were taken and the Doc noticed some problems at that time, but didn't really pursue it. For some reason, that was never entered into my medical record, probably because that happened in transit. Another incident where I was pushed off of a six foot wall onto a sidewalk (that might explain the thoracic injuries). Then two auto accidents, neither one my fault. All in all, it could be a culmination of injuries.

Your neck looks jacked up. I hope it turns out ok.

Well, the neurosurgeon has spoken. He want's to remove the back part of my spine bones in my neck. (A complete laminectomy) Similar to this:

I spoke with  my neurologist and she suggests a second opinion. I think that I'm going to follow her advice. I'm not too keen on having bones removed quite yet.

Good luck Thor. Hope the second opinion resolves things and you have a successful treatment of one sort or another.

Go get 2 more opinions before you let someone leave your spine exposed.

Hugs and prayers, Rob.

Yeah, I agree, as this is something pretty major.

If time and energy and finances and insurance allows for it, two more opinions wouldn't hurt.

Godspeed, Thor, sir.
