Title: Overseas troops reactions
Post by: DixieBelle on November 05, 2008, 08:05:21 PM
Great stuff!

Some choice comments:

I must respectfully disagree. President-elect Obama shares absolutely none of the heritage of racial repression that has darkened this country's history. A man who has formative ties to Kansas, Hawaii, Kenya, and Indonesia does not know what it is like to have a father who can remember being fire-hosed and attacked with dogs while marching for civil rights. A man who attended Harvard does not know what it is like to work a job while attending night classes to become the first college graduate in his family. The day we elect a person who grew up in a small town in Mississippi (or Alabama, or Louisiana, or Georgia), who attended a small state college, and who can trace their lineage back to a sharecropper and, before that, a slave, THAT will be a historic day for America.

I don’t like you because I don’t trust you. I think you’re a socialist, I think you’re a media whore, I think you’re a flash in the pan… but you won. So congratulations… you now own the most powerful office in the world. Everyone in the world is looking at you as an example of America and more importantly, an example of an African-American. Little black kids across America are looking up to you. Try not to eff it up.

Now is not the time to shirk our duties as men and women who are used to fighting. Now is the time to gird our loins, sharpen our axes, gather our allies and make our stand based upon our beliefs and fight tooth and nail for all that we have; never yielding or giving an inch on our beliefs.
We will DEMAND that President Obama not cut and run from Iraq or Afghanistan.
We will DEMAND ...

Something from the comments section below that.
Quote
poss scenario:

obama will retreat from iraq.

iraq might destabilize - causing a l,oss of all hard won gains.

this will be a morale killer.

recruitment will suffer.

reenlistment collapse.

obama will start a draft.

include women.

gays.

draft will be ameliorated by offering option: military or civilian service.

this is how he will start his civilian defense corps/brownshirts.

At least someone else knows about the brownshirts.

We're scared to death because we don't know what's going to happen to us.

Like I said yesterday...my first thought was that what I did in Iraq for a year and what some of my friends DIED for in Iraq...is about to get tossed on the trash heap and labeled a "mistake".

We're ****ed.  But it won't happen overnight, it's going to be a slow, painful thing, with EPA strangling the base infrastructure in the US, our hands being tied on detainee treatment followed by wholesale release when Gitmo is closed and 'Good will' releases happen elsewhere, retrenchment and "re-examination of the mission" in Afghanistan and Iraq, a "Re-appraisal of strategic relationships (i.e. distancing from Israel)," and resources drying up in general (except those that are kept in the budget in the name of Critical Pork).

I know I'd feel confused and betrayed if I were on AD right now.   Soldiering on has got to be difficult with such a huge unknown looming.  Those who were planning a career or are close to retirement have to be doing a lot of soul searching right now.

Erp! I'd hate to have a DC cert signed by the Big 0.

My son had considered re-entering the Army as an officer.  He finally decided that he couldn't leave his baby girl and wife...and take the chance of never coming home.  I am SO glad!!

And yet I can't walk away. Even knowing all of that I can't quit...not now.
