Lucy was about physical comedy.  Lucy wasn't a stand-up.  It's hard to compare the too.

BTW, offstage Lucy was a serious type person.  She wasn't a cut-up nor the life of the party.  Lucy had the business of being Lucy to run.  There wasn't time for silliness.  Must folks didn't know how to take her.  But anyone who had Carol Burnett as a dear dear friend could not be a bad person.

Phyllis was sooo funny.  They showed a clip on F&F this morning.  The skit was about a marriage counselor.  Guy:  Are you sure you're a marriage counselor?  Phyllis:  I have a PhD in marital relations, an LLC in psychiatry, and I've been married 29 .........

times.

Part of her schtick was about how ugly she was.  I later saw a glamour portrait of her, and said to my mom, "Oh, she's so beautiful!  I thought she wasn't supposed to be?"  Mom explained how it was just all part of the gag.  She really was beautiful, and she had drop-dead legs, too.

RIP Phyllis.  A long and fruitful life.

He may not be as old as Phyllis Diller, but he is closer in style to the old ones than what passes for comedy today.

I still think his Noah bit was hilarious.

I am laughing in my head remembering that skit.  I used to listen to his albums, and The Smothers Brothers, and Brother Dave Gardner.
R.I.P. LC and Crockspot.  Miss you guys.

Early to late 60's, all those plus Redd Foxx and Moms Mably(?).
