It was dropped (all of those are dropped/damaged systems).

The screen will light up as long as it's getting current.  There are two parts to an LCD panel... the LCD overlay and a flourescent backlight behind it to make the screen light up.  The LCD panel is smashed all to hell but the backlight still works.

Ha!  No.  The damage on these computers is not covered under warranty, which is I why I have them piled up in the corner.  I wouldn't be able to get parts for them.  I have to ship them back to our hardware depot to be repaired there.

These Thinkpads are a breeze to work on compared to the cheap HPs I used to fix.  I like them.

Never did that with the small laptops. I did work on the first and second generation IBM-PCs - the ones that used DOS with no mouse.

That would make a great background.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

One thing DOS hardly EVER did? Crash. The hard drives crashed back then, but not DOS.

Yes. The first XP I had in 1982 used the green and black screen, and then I got one that had a color monitor. Thinking back, the color monitor and 4.77 MHZ with 256K RAM - I was in tall cotton!!!!!  :-)
