I had recently set up a WiFi network for my house. I have Verizon DSL as my internet server (will be updating to FiOS soon.) The DSL router is going into my Ativa54G WiFi via an ethernet cable. From that into my desktop also via an ethernet cable. My Sony Vaio laptop finds the network and connecs easily at 54 Mpbs. The problem? Neither my desktop or my laptop will load any video 100% or download any files 100%. Sometimes it stops within a few percent, other will come as close as 90% before stopping. But never 100%. Any solution or just get FiOS in her as quick as possible?
Also, My Wii finds the network, recognizes the wireless system but will not connect.

Just curious. Have you tried resetting both the modem and router when the download freezes? (are you talking about torrent files by any chance?)

I do not know what torrent files are. I have reset the modem but not the router. Nothing changes. Some times, even web pages will not pop up. I have to stop and try again. This is on both computers. My Dell is old but runs XP home. The Vaio is brand new. As I type, this is the 1540th page it has ever seen. Do not fret, I am not running Vistacrap. I picked this particular laptop due to the fact that it came with an upgrade which was the downgrade to Windows XP pro. It is using Intel PROSet wireless/Wireless WiFi.

Do you have any type of firewall?? Perhaps that's blocking something??

The laptop does not have any antivirus program yet. The desktop uses an outdated Norton. Both have the Window firewall up. This was NOT a problem with the desktop before I set up the WiFi router.

as far as the Wii, do you run a secure network, requiring a password to log onto the wireless network?? Also, do you have any 2.4 GHz telephones near the wireless router??

The network is not secure. I live so far from any other people or roads that I am not concerned. I do have cordless phones. Theyn aremusually dead somewhere in the girls room. The base station is in the same room as the router but onopposite sides of the rom. Maybe 15 feet away.

Have you tried moving the ethernet cable between the WiFi and the PC to another port on the WiFi? You might have a flakey switch port.
If that doesn't work call customer support at 866-912-8482 and explain the problem, hopefully they can help you with the issue.

Is it only file downloads that are stopping , I assume that web content is successfully downloaded...
Do you have enough free space on the drive you're saving the files too ?

Based on the details posted in the OP, that probably isn't the issue, but you make an excellent point.

If it's happening on BOTH wireless & ethernet, I suspect the router. There was one model of Linksys 54G routers that I were known to be problematic. What I would suggest is to turn off the wireless access, unplug the router for a minute, plug it back in and see what happens. If the issue is still there, then I would return/ exchange the router or buy a new one. Dlink or Linksys are my preferred brands. DLink seems to be a little slower that Linksys when it comes to the wireless side, but not terribly. Linksys seems to be a little more robust on the wireless side.

I will unplug the router for a minute and see what happens. Last night I noticed my neighbors WiFi is also unsecured. I tapped into that and had no problems. I was able to download FireFox and a few spyware programs.
Maybe I will just use his until FiOS is installed, which is a three week wait. :-)
