Title: Renaming an account

Is it possible to do so as to keep the exact same post history (not just post count)? For example, changing username from "jackrabbit" into "jackass" but in such a way as to have all prior "jackrabbit" posts appear when you search under the name "jackass"?

Yes, changing the display name will do that.
