Title: about weird and strange genitices
Post by: vesta111 on June 21, 2014, 09:12:42 AM
Back in the 1970's I had a room mate in at a post birth room at the Army hospital in Honolulu . The Military dependent had given birth the same day as I had,, My baby had been born weighing 4 pounds and was in the incubator section, her baby was over 5 pounds and as she told me due for surgery for a genetic condition that had gone through the mothers line for generations.

What was this, her baby as she, her mother and grandmother and into the past was born with 6 fingers and toes on each limb.  So why if the extra of fingers and toes actually worked, why remove them ?

Today 40 years later I found a site that showcased a family all with 6 fingers on each hand. A beautiful family that used the genetic problem to their benefit.    Music, all instruments that require just 5 fingers.
The second finger added other sounds  to the music .

So why do we try to alter humans as they are today ?    Who knows what these genetic throw backs can do
benefit human KIND ?

I'd imagine she decided to have it done so her child wouldn't be called a freak by other kids as they grew up.

Kids can be very cruel at times.

Polydactyly is a genetic condition (http://genetics.thetech.org/ask-a-geneticist/polydactyly). But removing the "extra" digit doesn't remove the gene that causes it.

I first read about it as a kid in the late forties (in one of Ripley's "Believe it or Not" paperbacks) about a town in Spain where almost everybody had six digits.

Do you know what would be some really weird and strange genetics?

One of Goliath's (I think brother) relatives.

1 Chronicles 20:6 (KJV)
And yet again there was war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot: and he also was the son of the giant.

Buying gloves and shoes to fit must be a real pain.

Which finger do they wear their wedding ring on?

Can they pull the trigger on a gun?

Here we see why the 6th finger was removed. Movie monsters always eat the guy/gal with extra fingers first.
