It occurs to me that we may be very fortunate Joe Biden's time waited until now

Jason Johnson, on MSNBC's coverage of Biden's commemoration of the 500,000 dead from Covid, said he thought Biden was the best president for this moment.

That caused me to reflect a bit.

We all know of someone who was right for a given moment. Now we have a president who knows so well the sense of loss. Tonight it was about people lost to Covid. But in a larger sense he is a man with the gift of a huge sense of empathy. In a sense he is the prototypical everyman. The regular guy. He is not afraid to wear his emotions on his sleeve.

As we turn from an era of "me" to a time when "we" and "you" are in great demand, he's the guy who can deliver that.

2. He absolutely is. He will be known as the "empathetic recovery" President.

He is pure of heart.
Exact opposite of his evil heartless predecessor.

5. I voted for Bernie in the primary. I don't regret the vote.

That said, African-American women, starting in South Carolina, told us that Joe had to be our nominee.

They were right.

8. Yes, the perfect man for this time in history

I would have liked him to run in 2016, but I think this is his moment.

9. I've been thinking the same

Not only because of his empathy but also because his experience enabled him to hit the ground running. I am so impressed by how much he has gotten done in just one month.

11. But "this time in history" may not have been what it is

if Joe had been president sooner. I personally would have traded him for any republican from Reagan on. We may have still had two very tall buildings standing in New York and 500,000 people not dead.

18. With you on that.....

He had 'problems' in his last campaigns - and whatever they were doesn't matter - he has come a LONG way! I'm inclined to think that the time he worked with PRESIDENT OBAMA was a great training ground for him - and 'CREDS' to him for stepping up and taking advantage of that experience - it certainly has made him a better leader.
His life experiences have done what one would hope a person could do - take them, reflect on them, learn from them, and become a better person.
PRESIDENT JOE has done just that!

21. When a party faces an absolute crisis moment for the country and itself

there are deep bench, patriotic, mainstream experienced people available. Biden is all of that and so much more.

32. The day after the inauguration,

I commented on another thread that the lyrics Katy Perry sang that night in her performance, Firework, seemed particularly apt. I don't recall the exact words, but the essence of the verse dealt with doors being closed off at a given time so that a person could be led to the exact right road at the exact right time.

I thought about Biden's failed earlier runs at the Presidency and that fact that he was emotionally unavailable to succeed Obama in 2016 due to the recent loss of his son to cancer.

Pondering the message of that song, I found myself believing-- just for a moment-- in a Higher Power at work in Joe Biden's life and in the history of this country. As a devotee of rationalism and a skeptic regarding magical thought, I want to laugh at myself for considering such ideas. On the other hand, cynicism is a double edged sword that can keep you safe from crazy conspiracy theories but can also wear down your capacity for hope.

So, who is to say? Maybe every loss and disappointment and failure in Joe Biden's life did mold him and lead him here to this time and place where he is needed. If nothing else, I have faith that Biden is a person capable of feeling loss, tolerating disappointment and admitting failure. That quality alone sets him head and shoulders above his immediate predecessor.

Hmmmm.  It looks like the sparkling old dude's much-younger trophy wife let him out of the nursing home to make this comment, thus assuring his fellow primitives and franksolich  that he still lives.  Remember, he's pretty old and worn out.

I'm sure that China, Iran, the drug cartels and human smugglers in Mexico feel the same way as you Stinky.

President Trump was the right man at the right time. He has shown everyone how much Democrats hate the United States, its founding principles and the American people.

The regret is that Cap’n Dementia and the primitives aren’t among the 500,000.

And this “the need to shift from ‘me’ to ‘we’” is hilarious. Democrats and liberals are about self, and then wanting to force others to also do what they say.

Mike is as immature as he’s always been.

Yeah, I'm sure the 12,000 skilled Keystone pipeline workers who were shitcanned on the first day of the xiden mal-administration feel very fortunate about it being "his time"

that is one big disgusting xiden circle jerk going on over there.

Do any of them have a clue that he is merely responding to the inputs of his socialist puppet masters?  do they care?

...

He is pure of heart.

As much time as they spent calling Trump supporters "cultists" I don't think any of us denied the man's flaws and called him "pure of heart." We simply rallied to him for his defense of ordinary Americans.

The late Lee Rodgers, morning drive host on KSFO for many years, had a saying regarding politicians that DU-grade Proggies would do well to heed: Never give your heart to a politician. He will break it.

You're right, SV, that is a circle jerk, and a competition of who can be most puke-inducing sycophantic.  Really gross.  "Hit the ground running."   :rotf:  He puts a lid on things at 8:00 am, and goes back to bed.

The whole nature of DU is basically one big circle jerk fest.

And until Sleepy Joe was running his basement campaign, don't recall ever hearing the term "lid" other than for a container or baseball cap.
