well, for someone who has worked for Walmart 7 years 10 months and a handful of days. this is not true. Three factors fit into this, sales/profit, loss and safety.
You guys are really smart, you will understand.
We compare our sales on a year to date basis....so say we(base #'s)made 50,000.00 on 12/7/2010 today we may have made 75,000.00, therefore 25000.00 is our profit.then we take our losses which include claims(broken items sent back to warehouse),shrink(theft), and store use items. If someone is negligent and causes an accident(associate or customer), all these UNpredictable liabilities affect our bottom line...once the numbers are computed, the remainder becomes our profitsharing check.
It does go by store, full timers got 59.00 and part-timers got thirty at our store. There are alot of stores that don't do well at all ever!!! I have gotten 500.00 checks before in other quarters, so a store can do really well.....
As far as charities go, each store or district has a specific charity. Ours is Children Miracle Network at the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland. We have associates that make stuff for it(For example I make 30 coin pouches, that i donate towards that, Other associates do different things)and Carolyn(volunteer) has a little table that she sells the stuff on and takes donations...
Not all stores do that...Some might just do a lump sum every month, but, it will affect the bottom line of that particular store...
