Documentaries that you recommend?
« on: September 24, 2016, 01:04:20 PM »
For example: Things relevant to society, politics, why not the election even. (It's September 2016 at the time of writing.) Documentaries on history are also welcome.

What I am looking for is something that isn't full of bull. Left wing perspectives go away, I've had enough. Any recommendations?

It can be free or available for purchase somewhere. Just shoot.

Please say why you like the things that you recommend too.

Well, that's a rather broad question, a wide-open question.

I'm going to turn the question around, though--what sort of documentaries do you like?

And then one can go from there.

I recently watched.....and re-watched.....and re-re-watched.....and re-re-re-watched the 1970 movie, Waterloo, which wasn't a documentary, but I suppose close to being one (I had to watch it several times because I'm deaf and miss things.  If I watch something often enough, sooner or later I finally grasp the whole thing).

A historical re-enactment, I suppose.

There's straight documentaries too.  So.....tell us what you like to watch, or what you'd like to see, and we can go from there.

I liked "Ordförande Persson", by a leftist about a leftist, but I don't suppose it's made a hit in any other language. In any case it's actually good in spite of the fact that a leftist made it. It gives quite some insight into an era.

Okay, I looked it up, and I'm going to watch it tomorrow (Saturday).

The google entries for it are all in Swedish, but I assume I'll figure it out.

Ask me about it, about this same time tomorrow.

I wonder if you can find it with subs in English. I have never seen that. And much of the documentary is just interview so getting what they're saying is necessary.

I looked around for an English version, but couldn't find one.

It's going to be a problem, but not as big of a problem as one thinks.

<<<because am deaf, have spent a lifetime figuring out what people are saying, and what language they use is less important than it is for hearing people.

I watched it now anyway, Hillary's America. A good movie. I will watch it again, probably after the election.

The Mike Madigan one which is mostly inside baseball to Illinois is pretty well done.  If you aren't familiar with him, he's been IL house speaker for 20+ years.  Wields unprecedented power in the state and his tentacles go everywhere in Chicago & the state.

If you are still looking for a good documentary try "Paper Clips". It's not new but it is really well done.
