1950s patrol car offers ride through history
Back in 1950, Nebraska Safety Patrol officers had to drive up alongside a speeding car and switch on a “pull over†light when they wanted a driver to stop.
Back then, patrol cars didn’t have flashing lights or blaring sirens. But they could move along pretty quickly.
In fact, the cars could reach speeds of 100 mph, said Bill Price, a trooper with the Nebraska State Patrol.
One such car will be on display at the Elkhorn Valley Museum in Norfolk for the next six weeks. It is part of a exhibit honoring the Nebraska State Patrol’s 75th anniversary, which is this year.....
I wasn't aware the Nebraska State Patrol was once the "Nebraska Safety Patrol."
