Title: political compass test
Post by: franksolich on May 20, 2009, 12:03:20 PM
Thanks to thundley here, who found this for me.

http://www.politicalcompass.org/test

This test of political ideology was first posted on Skins's island.

Normally, things posted by primitives are of dubious values, but as someone who has taken professional political ideology tests administered by professionals, franksolich has found this particular one to be the best, of such "tests" roaming around the internet.

This test uses scientific measurements of ideology, and not measurements of ideology as perceived by the primitives.

Not surprisingly, the primitives have usually scored way over to the left-hand side, in the "extreme" area, while decent and civilized people who imagine themselves "conservative" usually find themselves vaguely somewhere near the middle; i.e., the mainstream.

This is mine--gotten despite my own opinions about freedom of speech and expression of religion, the Second Amendment, the inalienable right to life, frugality in governmental taxation and spending, unwavering support for the wars for the liberation of Afghanistan and Iraq, &c., &c., &c.

Which would, one assumes, make the primitives think of franksolich as some "extreme far-right-winger," when in fact franksolich is a nice guy, one of the nicest guys one can ever hope to meet.

You know, it's really weird.

I answered all of the questions in a manner which the primitives construe to be "extreme right-wing," and the test accurately portrays me as middle-of-the-road anyway.

This, madam, is the Nebaska-Kansas populism in us.

I suspect what pulls us "left", into the middle, and the same thing in former U.S. Senator Robert Dole (R-Kansas), is the traditional populist mistrust of Wall Street and the northeastern states, and our concern for the environment (after all, most of our livelihoods depend upon a healthy environment).

No, he certainly not was on the right.  Leftists (or, if you'd prefer, collectivists/statists) love to push the meme that fascism is a right-wing ideology, when in fact it is simply a different flavor of totalitarian statism.  The struggle of right versus left is the struggle of individual freedom versus collectivism/statism, a category that socialism and fascism both fall in to.

Well, damn.

I just took the test again, after a year or so.

The questions are different from what I recall the first time.

However, I scored exactly as I had last time, two lines above the center, in the center (as on first page of this thread).

One can't be more moderate than that, but one wonders if Skins's island, which is always seeking moderators, "centrists and liberals," would take fransolich as a centrist.

You centrist, you.

Actually, it's pretty remarkable.  I got my centrist score despite that I love George Bush, I believe in pursuing the war on terror with all speed and diligence, am pro-life and pro-small government, boost the Second Amendment, trust our men and women in uniform, think the death penalty is underapplied, favor lower taxes, support the First Amendment, including the freedom of (not "from", but "of") religion, think those on the public dole should have to do some work.....and I end up a centrist.

I suspect the primitives don't know excresence about scientific measurements of ideology, because by the primitives' ill-formed standards, franksolich is a radical right-wing extremist.

Once again I answered all question based on what I think and got a different place on the chart. That's three times now and and don't know what I keep changing my mind on when I take the test.

The important thing I guess is to know where you stand and just use this test for fun, like all tests of this nature. I still agree with the first one (http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,28899.msg592922.html#msg592922) I took as where I am on the chart.

green dot is where i thought i would be
some questions were tricky to answer because i knew how my answer would score even though i answered for different reason, which prolly brought it up and to the left
