Original message

I just watched Avatar again and it's message has so much more meaning since the Gulf of

Mexico oil accident. The part where Jake Sully's avatar prays to the Navi Goddess Eiywa and tells her that he comes from a planet that has no green anymore because his people had killed their Goddess left me in tears. The oceans are the last living part of this planet that humans haven't completely left their footprint on and now we are doing to them what we have done to all our wilderness places and they are the last bodies left for us to destroy. I can remember when I was a child that there were still vast parts of Africa and South America that weren't reshaped by man to suit the needs and greed of the invading humans. They have mostly disappeared. I'm really feeling more helpless now than I have in a long time.

Before Reagan came to Washington and removed all the solar panels from the roof of the White House, there was a strong environmental movement that looked like it might take hold and change the way we treat our Mother Earth. It's just a distant memory now. I know, we are allowed to think we are making a difference by recycling and little green things we do, but we aren't making a dent in the wholesale destruction of this planet by big business. Apparently, we have lost and they have won.

from 30 rock...

Nancy: Hey how you doing.  You see Avatar?
Man: Yeah that new 3D is amazing.
Nancy: Yeah I dunno, I found myself rooting for our boys in uniform, not those blue hippies.  But full disclosure I had a couple of drinks prior to.

heh...

don't you just love that myth of the "noble native american?"  "protecting the environment?"  my god, what bullshit.

if you open at least one book in your life, you will discover that the native american was a savage f'ing beast.  doing what he needed to do ensure the livelihood of his own.  killing, raping, pillaging, driving thousands of buffalo over a cliff to get the meat of a few.  are you dummys really that stupid?

i don't begrudge him.  but yet i will not worship him.

dude was doing what dude had to do.

no different than the folks you so pc hate today.

you might want to look at that.

oh wait...  i forgot... you don't like to self-examine all that much.

do you?

First time I heard about that.  Went and found a couple articles.  I may vomit.  What is wrong with people?

Didn't know that at all, but I was in Middle School then in Ohio, so I had other more important kid things to burden my mind with.

I often wish I could go back to being a kid, with no worries of current events/where the world is going. It would just be a lot simpler.

Ahhh, to reminisce.

They're also depressed because they can't get one of those really cool purple ponies like the Na'vi have.

Actually, a DUmmy wouldn't last very long in that environment. They'd discover that sooner or later their asses would have to roll out of the hammock and actually do something for the existence of the tribe - hunt, gather firewood, something. That and the fact that there are no pot plants would be a deal-breaker.

Hey lurking DUmbasses! If you think Avatar represents reality, then by all means go out into the jungle. Don't worry about the Poison Arrow Frogs, Pythons, Caimans, Fire Ants, Killer Bees, various lethal spiders, Malaria and other diseases. Nature is one big happy family!

Avatar had great graphics...for a backwards spaghetti Western.  Good injun...bad cowboy...

Did you ever wonder where they got their food?  All the characters I saw were running around "playing indians."  Who was hunting, gathering, tending fields, cooking, making clothing, tending babies?  Did they have slaves? Were they "raping" their "mother earth" for food?  If they had such a warrior culture, could it be because they normally battled the other tribes and stole from them?   :rotf:

Of course, DUmmies usually reside in big cities, so don't even know how food gets to grocery stores, let alone how primitive tribes survived.

I think that Cleita is going to make my list for 2010.  She's just moonbattery in its purest form.

I saw those articles/TV pieces on the Avatar suicides.  They showed a couple of guys (anatomically, I guess), weeping and wailing over the fact that Earth will never be Pandora.  They looked straight out of a DUmmie picture thread.  Doughy, pasty, repulsive.

I just saw the movie for the first time this week. Ya I liked it more than I thought I would. Did I side with the natives? Yes, but who the hell woulden't? It's not like Cameron diden't make the "evil" humans so vile that you would WANT to side with them.  :thatsright:
In the end, I liked it but saw so many cliche's and retreaded scenes from his other movies they were almost distracting.
I agree with many reviewers that the visuals were fantastic, but the story line was old, tired, and used an ending that was infantile.
It was still a good "check your brain at the door" movie.
Why the DUmmies are so apeshit over it is beyond my understanding.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

I'll probably be forced to watch it when my grandkids bring it here on DVD. Otherwise I have no interest one way or the other. After I read the DUmmies political hand wringing, I lost all interest.

Another thing that gets me about so many of these movies is the way the native religions actually work.   ::)  We have a God powerful enough to speak energy into existence, move planets and suns into place in the universe, create life with a breath...and they go looking elsewhere for religion that works??   :mental: :mental: :mental:
