I Am with Meryl

No, you're not.

In fact, you wouldn't be allowed within 10 miles of the event because you're not one of them. You don't have the $20,000 dress that you'll wear once then retire because it just wouldn't do to be seen wearing the same dress twice lest anyone mistake you for one of the proles.

The only way you would be allowed to stand with Streep is if you were offering her hors d'oeuvres.

Quote
The reason Republicans went ballistic over Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes speech is simple: they don’t understand it.

We understand when a bunch of stuck-up elitists lie to our faces.

Quote
They cannot grasp the idea that someone would put their love of country ahead of all other considerations, including the negative impact doing so could have on their career. Republicans don’t do that – ever. They invariably put their own self-interests before anything else.

Where was Hillary's love of country when her employees were being slaughtered for 13 hours in Libya? It seems she was so worried about her career she left them to die then framed and innocent man for her incompetence.

The fact we didn't vote for Hillary is the only reason Streep is running her cock holster. It doesn't matter who would have won she and you and the rest of the Proglodytes would be making the exact same speeches.

Quote
They cannot fathom how anyone could turn a moment of personal glory into an opportunity to speak out about the imminent harm about to befall their fellow citizens. Republicans don’t do that – ever. They bask in whatever praise comes their way without any thought given to anyone other than themselves.

What the **** ever, bitch.

Conservatives are not allowed in Hollywood. There is no praise, there are only blacklists.

Quote
They cannot comprehend why an artist of Streep’s stature would risk a box-office boycott in order to turn the spotlight away from her own achievements, and instead shine it on those who don’t have a world stage on which to speak, but nevertheless have voices that should be heard. Republicans don’t do that – ever. They use the spotlight to dazzle those who agree with them, while ensuring that those who disagree are left silent and in the dark.

We've been listening to the smug, self-appointed elitists congratulate themselves

Being a liberal in Hollywood is the easiest thing in the world. The only thing easier in Hollywood is being a stoned bimbo and God graced Streep with the looks the preclude her that path.

Quote
They have no concept of choosing to say what needs to be said, regardless of the consequences. Republicans don’t do that – ever. They never say what needs saying, but only what their malleable constituents want to hear.

What needs to be said is:

Get over yourselves.

You aren't a brave resistance. You're a bunch of spoiled adult infants who lost an election because you pushed an agenda of nanny-statism over the objections of the governed. You wouldn't listen and instead chose to force yourselves into every aspect of our lives including our daughter's bathrooms under the weakest pretenses.

You refused to accept your wins and move on. You overreached. So now -- **** you.

Quote
They can’t wrap their heads around the notion that anyone would invite criticism of her words rather than not speak her mind, that anyone would stand up for what they believe in rather than ignore the plight of their fellow Americans. Republicans don’t do that – ever. They toe-the-line and keep their mouths firmly shut – only opening them when it serves their own agenda, and furthers their own political ambitions.

Every time a conservative speaks their mind you demand boycotts and censorship.

Get ready bitches.

Quote
Ms. Streep’s comments were based on concepts that are completely foreign to Republicans – concepts like patriotism, and concern for the direction in which the nation is headed. Her remarks focused on the bigotry and hatred that is now consuming far too many to be ignored. And yet again, Republicans don’t do that – ever. They instead choose to pretend that things like racism don’t exist, that “grabbing pussies” is merely locker-room banter, that mocking the disabled is “all in good fun”, that taking away people’s healthcare coverage is no big deal, that having an idiot in the WH who spends more time on Twitter than on intelligence briefings is completely normal.

**** you, you lying whore.

You traitors have sided with America's every enemy since Vietnam.

You have proudly displayed your contempt for the troops and support for our enemies. You have mocked patriotism at every turn. Go ahead, ****wit, google site search "4th july" at DU. I'll wait.

And we know racism exists. We need only look at SheShe2, Bravenak, Heaven05, EffieBlack and the rest see that the heart of racism and anti-Semitism beats loud and strong at DU.

Quote
The real problem with Ms. Streep’s speech was that the minute she started speaking the truth, she was speaking a foreign language that Republicans simply don’t understand.

Said the skrag who just spent 500 words lying.

Liberal thinking is a two-legged stool and magical thinking is one of the legs, the other is a combination of self-loating and misanthropy.  To understand it, you would have to be able to sit on that stool while juggling two elephants, an anvil and a fragmentation grenade, sans pin.

Right away, a H5 for the quite excellent title for this thread.
The true 1%, in the worst possible sense (obscene wealth, living in grotesque extravagance in which vast sums of money are pissed away on unnecessary crap like something you'd see in an old Richie Rich cartoon, completely out of touch with regular Americans, etc.), are the obscenely rich, uber- hypocritical, ultra- liberal Hollywood celebrities like Streep. I think that tradition started with John Lennon (He sang about imagining "No possessions," while he drove a Rolls Royce and lived in an Upper East Side penthouse), and is at a complete fever pitch now with celebrities bleating about how they "Care" about the plight of the needy while wearing outfits on the red carpet that cost enough money to provide an impoverished third world village with food, clean water, and medical supplies for at least a year, and jewelry that almost certainly contains African blood diamonds. But, hey, anything for Access Hollywood and TMZ to rave about how gorgeous they look!
Some political commentator coined the nickname "Glitterpigs" for them, and that moniker fits the likes of Streep like a glove.
As someone here noted in an article a day or two ago, Streep's own small- town neighbors expose her for the cruel, stuck- up, condescending, hypocritical witch (Perfectly cast in 'Into the Woods,' I guess you could say) that she is, when she doesn't have TV cameras on her.
Her speech was the most smug, self- righteous, hypocritical, condescending thing I've heard from a Hollywood celebrity since George Clooney's acceptance speech at the 2006 Oscars.
"They cannot grasp the idea that someone would put their love of country ahead of all other considerations, including the negative impact doing so could have on their career."
Conservatives do that all the time. Mel Gibson's Hollywood career was destroyed by how upfront he was about his conservatism (I recall him referring to his film 'The Passion of the Christ' as a "Career- killer" before it even premiered, but he made it anyway because it was a movie which needed to be made). The Hollywood careers of Bruce Willis and Kelsey Grammer were both very heavily damaged when they were each revealed to be Republicans. The only real exception to this rule is Robert Downey Jr., but I think that's because he tends to avoid mentioning his conservative beliefs unless he absolutely has to.
"They cannot comprehend why an artist of Streep’s stature would risk a box-office boycott in order to turn the spotlight away from her own achievements, and instead shine it on those who don’t have a world stage on which to speak, but nevertheless have voices that should be heard."
1. She doesn't have to risk a boycott. Most average Americans, of the sort that she was talking down to in her sickening speech, don't go to her movies (I can count the number of movies she's been in that I've seen on one hand), and even if they did, she's so grotesquely wealthy that it'll hardly make a dent in her pocket book and so beloved by liberal Hollywood that they'll keep putting her in crappy, pretentious movies.
2. Turn the spotlight away from her own achievements? She gave that speech in order to make herself look all compassionate and enlightened and awesome and make others fawn over her even more. It's what's known as fake humility, similar to Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift's Grammy acceptance speech on the supposed grounds of wanting to praise Beyonce Knowles.
"They have no concept of choosing to say what needs to be said, regardless of the consequences."
Yes they do, considering that if they honestly address any issues that need to be addressed, leftists like you DUmmies openly accuse them of racism, homophobia, sexism, etc., because that is the only card in your deck, and set out to destroy them by any means you deem necessary.
" They never say what needs saying, but only what their malleable constituents want to hear."
That's what I like to call "The Obama Method." Flowery language that easily- persuaded voters want to hear. "Hope 'n change," and all.
"Ms. Streep’s comments were based on concepts that are completely foreign to Republicans – concepts like patriotism, and concern for the direction in which the nation is headed."
Patriotism?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks for that, nothing like a good laugh to wake you up in the morning.
You liberals openly insult America as an evil, racist nation populated by brainless rednecks every chance you can get, and openly side with our nation's enemies (Especially Communists and Jihadists) every chance you can get. DUmmies like you write threads and posts in which having any kind of pride in our country, let alone actual patriotism, is dismissed as "Nationalism" or "Jingoism."
Hollywood uber- liberals like Streep regularly puke out pretentious movies and TV shows which openly insult America in pretty much the exact same ways, portray the US military and police forces as evil monsters who just love butchering non- whites for the fun of it, and portray Christians (Especially priests and ministers) as brainless, bigoted fiends, while at the same time portraying thieves, murderers, deviants, drug dealers, and terrorists as wonderful, sympathetic heroes taking a courageous stand for what's right.
"The real problem with Ms. Streep’s speech was that the minute she started speaking the truth, she was speaking a foreign language that Republicans simply don’t understand. "
Oh, we understand what she was saying just fine, better than you in fact, and that's why we're criticizing her.

What negative impact? In Hollywood she is expected to hold those views, most to nearly all of her peers hold those views. The writers, directors, producers and studio heads also hold those same views.

You want negative impact? Have a star come out and openly support Trump, their career would be dead and the stars against Trump would be tap dancing around the corpse.

Streep was just parroting Hollyweird Orthodoxy when she thought she had a "captive" audience (the ratings for the Golden Globe awards were probably somewhere between mediocre and dismal). She took zero risk, showed zero courage. This is demonstrated by Hollyweird cranking out Hate-Bush box office bomb after Hate-Bush box office bomb after Hate-Bush box office bomb after ... .

Now, you want to talk about some one who is probably virtually unemployable in Hollyweird? Try Kirk Cameron, who is openly conservative and a Christian. Or try that Baptist church in (IIRC) Georgia that has produced several box office hit movies.

Where this, stand there, and say this.

Real smart they are...oh and creative.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Likewise Robert Conquest. If they'd lived during the Ukrainian terror-famine they'd have been bureaucrats confiscating grain from "kulaks". If they'd lived during the purge they'd be purged bureaucrats headed for the Kolyma or Dzhezkazgan, playing "Comrades". Most likely both.

People with a superiority complex - who imagine they uniquely know what is best for our country, who imagine they uniquely know what needs to be said and what people should be allowed to hear - don't handle rejection well. Which is why they need to have their noses rubbed in that rejection regularly.
