Orbiting, spiraling, spinning .. how?
« on: July 03, 2013, 11:43:55 PM »
If I were to set a grenade on a table, in the middle of an empty room and somehow, safely set it off .. the shards would blow outward.
Correct?

Maybe some but definitely not all of those shards would be launched in a spinning mode.
(likely none due to forward momentum)

We now come to the Big Bang.

Scientist, (a little smarter than I) have speculated that All matter, all of our stars, planets and moons were created in the Big Bang explosion that is similar to my grenade example.

Question: How is that everything in our known universe is in an orbital, spinning path?

My grenade couldn't do it, How could a so called Big Bang make it happen?

Yes, I know about the 'dust' coming together to form stars and planets but dust would just be smaller shards!

(Any of you need a pen and paper for figuring?)

What if you were playing "Spin The Grenade" and it went off?

Maybe there wasn't just one massive ball of matter but two of them tightly spinning around themselves getting ever closer until forces blew them apart?

well as I understand thing in the realm of the big bang. which I believe happened with help from our creator. As science says after the the accelerated expansion (see Prof. Alan Guth on that) and the creation of the elements, gravity took over and that is how things started to spin. I am a theistic evolutionist. If you don't know what that is I believe in God but he used what is most obvious as his tools to get things done. I am not one of those that thinks that God snapped his/her fingers and all was there. The earth was created in 7 days according to the bible it also says one day is of a thousand years to God. There is no human remains below the KT divide and no dino bones above. if your beliefs are different than mine that is ok...just giving a different perspective on your posting maybe.

None of it makes sense!

I like the Two Spinning Grenades theory the best! :naughty:

Planets and things orbit because of the curved space-time around massive objects like the sun and other stars. Stars, planets, black holes spin because of the angular momentum of collapsing gas clouds from which there were created. I good explain come from a web site at Cornell university

Sometimes micro experiments don't scale up well.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Gravitational theory would indicate that the expansion of the universe should be slowing, but recent measurements seem to indicate the opposite is true.

Not really, it just indicates that there might be another force that we are not familiar with that has a greater effect.

The dark matter theory.

The dark matter theory.

Yes, I believe your right.

The thing is, I guess, is that gravity is considered a weak force. I also think that a bowl of captain crunch has a stronger ability to clump together then gravity can explain.

Edit: BTW I think the captain crunch thing is called accretion.

Gravitational theory would indicate that the expansion of the universe should be slowing, but recent measurements seem to indicate the opposite is true.

What that really means is that science doesn't understand the behavior of the universe as much as it thinks it does. However, Milton Friedman worked out possible solutions to Einstein's gravitational equations the results were either universes that were either expanding indefinitely (but slowing over time) or universes that expanded and then eventually collapse. Either the universe hasn't gotten to the slowing phase or there is more at work that is known right now. It has been suggested that the expansion is being driven by "dark energy" but no one can define what dark energy is. Ascribing the seemingly increasing rate of expansion to something that is not defined nor understood is tantamount to admitting they they don't know.

We base our current measure of the age of the universe on the speed of light as it travels through space. There are some theories being worked on that tie the speed of light to the expansion that indicate that the speed of light was faster in the past. If this turns out to be true then we have greatly misrepresented the age of the universe. I'm not saying that I buy in to this but it is interesting to consider the implications.

As far as I know God could have created the heavens and the earth in 6 days.

And threw in all these mysteries just to keep us guessing.

From God's perspective there are no mysteries.

maybe you should do some research.
Thank You .. That was very helpful.

This is the Science thread isn't it?

I was guessing that there were some here that would be interested in putting forth their opinions?

Lively discussion and debate?

Hence .. Research?
